Verifying Teen Homeschool Students
by Austin Webberly 12 Aug '25

12 Aug '25

Hi friends! We host many teens after school and have a Teen Space program during after school hours so they can hang out, do homework, etc., and require proof of student status to enter the room. (Examples include school ID, online school profile, class schedule, drivers license/state ID, anything that will show us that they are in grades 7-12.) If any libraries have a similar teen space program or area where students need to show some sort of proof of student status to enter the space, what do you use as proof for homeschool students? Thank you in advance for your help! Austin -- *My work day may differ from yours. Please do not feel obligated to respond outside of your regular working hours.* Currently Reading <https://www.goodreads.com/user/email_signature_destination/21678268?utm_med…> [image: Book Cover] <https://www.goodreads.com/user/email_signature_destination/21678268?utm_med…> [image: Goodreads Logo] <https://www.goodreads.com/?utm_medium=gr_logo&utm_source=email_signature>Get your own email signature <https://www.goodreads.com/user/email_signature_instructions?utm_medium=gyo_…>

Hello! At our library, we get a large amount of teens and tweens after school, and we are looking at reassessing our space to accommodate them as well as explore ways to enforce expectations to make our library welcome for all patrons. If you could share what your library has done that has been successful during afterschool traffic and what your teens spaces look like, that would be incredibly helpful! Thank you so much! by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 11 Aug '25

11 Aug '25

[https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXekrqqZ_KmvXGsbwYYkJ_oRm4gT…] Public library workers in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana are invited to apply to participate in Building Community-Based Summers (BCBS), a series of learning and discussion sessions held online. BCBS is designed to help libraries build strategies to work with their communities to provide summer programs and services that are inclusive of all. Selected participants will engage with a cohort of library staff to dig deeply into inclusive summer services. Participants will work with the facilitators and each other to consider what impact summer programs are having on those that need them the most. Each participating library should be represented by a team of at least two staff members. Libraries are encouraged to send staff from across departments and can include Youth Services and/or Adult Services staff, programming coordinators, summer library program coordinators, outreach staff, and administrators. Participation in the BCBS initiative will require, of all team members: * Active attendance and participation using cameras, shared whiteboards, and breakout sessions. * Participation in an introductory orientation before the learning sessions begin. * Additional work will be required within your library and community to begin to consider and assess your existing and planned summer programs and services through an equity lens. Expect to spend approximately 1-2 hours/week doing this work, in addition to the virtual sessions. If you are interested in participating in a virtual BCBS cohort, you have two options to apply for: * A new Ohio/Michigan/Indiana Tri-state Cohort! This cohort will offer up to 11 sessions (some deep dives, some optional check-ins), with the Youth Services Consultants from Michigan and Ohio, the Adult Services Consultant from Ohio, and each other to consider what impact summer programs are having on those that need them the most. To learn more and apply to the Tri-State BCBS Cohort, go to : Tri-State BCBS Cohort Invitation to Apply<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a9EIw-Akqjl-Qa1GpVPpNxtSE4rYkgWV5K1MMtA…>. * The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) sponsors this six-session interactive BCBS discussion series, held over the course of two months this Fall. Selected participants will have the opportunity to engage with a nationwide cohort of library staff to dig deeply into inclusive summer services. To learn more and apply to the CSLP BCBS Cohort, go to the CSLPBuilding Community Based Summers<https://www.cslpreads.org/building-community-based-summers/> site. Reply with your complete shipping address and I'll donate it to your library. It's a 2006 model and not a match for today's multi-function printers of course. But fax machine technology is essentially unchanged since the 1990s of course. -- Regards, Victor R. Makerspace Equipment Recommendations
by Sarah Marsack (Roseville Public Library) 08 Aug '25

08 Aug '25

Hello Everyone, Part of our library renovation will include adding a small makerspace and we are deciding which equipment we would like to start with. We already have a button maker, 3d printing pen, and a Cricut maker 3, heat press, hat press, and mug press but are hoping to get more for the makerspace. We were considering adding a 3d printer, laser cutter/engraver, and sewing machine and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for them. Was there any other equipment that you noticed is popular in your library makerspace and would recommend? Was there anything that you regret getting and would suggest avoiding? Please reply off list, I can compile a list of responses if anyone is interested. Thanks, Sarah Marsack Systems/Teen Librarian Roseville Public Library smarsack(a)roseville-mi.gov
