My board is still discussing this, but I think they will probably keep my position salaried and any overtime will be paid by dividing my annual salary by annual hours and multiplying by one and a half per hour. MCACA New Leaders Project to Build Youth Voice & Engagement in Arts/Cultural Organizations

Are you interested in building youth voice and engagement in your teen library programs? With support from the New Leaders - Michigan Council for Arts and Culture Affairs<http://www.michiganbusiness.org/community/council-arts-cultural-affairs/#fu…>, the Neutral Zone in Ann Arbor will provide its Youth Driven Spaces<http://neutral-zone.org/youth-driven-spaces/> Immersion program to 4 arts-based organizations across Michigan. Application and additional information can be found on line<http://goo.gl/VqMGBC>. These groups will receive training/coaching support (at no cost) to help them build youth/adult partnerships that increase teen engagement and voice in their art programs and organizations. The objective will be achieved by helping organizations build or expand a youth advisory council and through adoption of other youth driven strategies. Agencies who are interested in applying should: * Serve older youth (ages 13-19) * Be committed to supporting ways to increase youth voice and engagement in their programs and organization * May have or are interested in creating a youth council * Can identity and organize a leadership team of youth (8-15) and adult advisors (2-4) who can participate in an overnight retreat on November 19-20, 2016 Agencies participating in this initiative: * Receive all training and coaching services at no cost, including the 2-day October residential institute Agencies will cover their own travel cost to the November residential institute (in Jackson, MI) and an early spring summit (in Ann Arbor) If you are interested, please view and complete the on line application<http://goo.gl/VqMGBC> by September 21st, 2016. Grant centers

The no longer existent library, Macomb County Library, had a grant center for individuals to find foundations and grant information. Surely that isn't the only library to offer such a service to the public. I've a teenaged boy in Port Huron and a nursing home in Lansing that could each benefit from this. Of course, being in the Michigan Humanities Council's Arts and Humanities touring directory, I recommended the mini-grant program, but would like to recommend more than just that. The nursing home is for profit, but in neither case is it likely they'll pay for a membership to GrantWatch.com. This is a resource worth traveling to access and could also benefit librarians willing to check such resources at a nearby center, so it's worth listing for all here. I tried prowling MEL without success. The guide for completing this plan is provided in Week 1. ◊ Participants complete a real "Community Leader Interview" and submit a synopsis of what they learned through this process by the end of the class. Participants will use the "Community Leader Interview Guide" provided in Week 1 as a tool for this interview, though all are welcome to adjust and tailor the questions asked to your own specific needs. The synopsis includes the name and contact information for the person interviewed, the date and location of the interview, and a summary of what was discovered through the interview process, particularly noting how what was learned matched up with the "Abridged Outreach Plan" completed in the beginning of the course (for example, did you learn anything new about the Latino community, did you discover opportunities for short or long term partnerships, etc.). ◊ Participants submit a storytime plan by the end of the class. The template for creating this storytime plan is provided in Week 3. Ms Scherrer writes, “My career in libraries was largely focused on serving Latino and Spanish-speaking families, first at the Columbus Metropolitan Library (OH) and then at the Lexington Public Library (KY). I have been presenting bilingual storytime programs and early literacy workshops for Spanish-speaking parents since 2006. I have been an active member of Reforma (an ALA affiliate) since that time at both the local and national levels. I served as a member of the Pura Belpré committee, and the Reforma representative on the ALSC Great Websites for Kids committee. Early American Imprints

We have available, at no charge, a collection of Early American Imprints. These are from American Antiquarian Society; Worchest, Mass. We have Evans number 1-49197 in 132 boxes. Note: "A Readex Microprint" They are also called Evans cards or Microcards. We also have a Readex Microprint Opaque Viewer Model 7 that is in working order. (I put in a micro card, adjusted the focus, and read the document.) If you are interested in this let me know. We are locoated in Berrien Springs, MI.
