Write Michigan Short Story Contest

Hello Everyone! We are delighted to announce the 5th Annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest! It is super exciting this year to share that we are including a Spanish Language category for stories! Please share this information with teachers, patrons and/or any writing groups who meet at your library or in your community! We have graphics, including posters, jpgs and images specifically formatted for social media at the Write Michigan media kit<http://writemichigan.org/media.html> and would be delighted if you would share information about this statewide contest. Here's a bit more detail: Don't miss the fifth annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest<http://www.writemichigan.org/>! The writing competition kicks off on September 1, but there's plenty of time to submit your story before the November 30 deadline. You could win up to $250 and have your story published by Chapbook Press. The basic principle of Write Michigan remains - Write a short story, Vote for your favorite, Win and be published. For its fifth year, Write Michigan is offering four categories: a Youth Category for writers ages 11 and under, a Teen Category for writers ages 12-17, an Adult Category for ages 18 and up, and a Spanish language category for all-ages! Youth and Teen submissions are free. The Adult story submission fee is $10. Winners will be honored during an Awards Ceremony taking place on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Kent District Library Service and Meeting Center. March 2017 [Bubble Gum Bubble Gum]The Library of Michigan has selected Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum written by Lisa Wheeler* and illustrated by Laura Huliska-Beith for the March 2017 Michigan Reads! program. Last winter it was decided that the Michigan Reads program would change to March to coincide with "March is Reading Month." Materials will be developed this Fall, with a survey to request an author tour up by October 2016, and delivery of the materials will be in January/February of 2017. The next program with author tour will be March 2017 and then annually in March thereafter. *Please note that Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum was taken out of print in December 2016. We are looking into possible options for purchasing copies, but in the end it is up to the publisher if they choose to put it back in print. They are running a very unique special for us to have copies printed for distribution across the state. Faculty Additions and Promotions at Wayne State SLIS

The Wayne State School of Library and Information Science is pleased to announce that Dr. Joan Beaudoin has received tenure and promoted to associate professor, effective August 2016. The School is also pleased to welcome Dr. Timothy Bowman as an assistant professor. Prior to joining the SLIS faculty, Timothy completed a one year postdoctoral position at the Research Unit for the Sociology of Education (RUSE) at the University of Turku, Finland where he conducted research on open science, scholarly communication, and altmetrics. Before this he worked as a research professional at the Universitè de Montreal, Montreal, Quebec, Canada investigating scholarly communication, bibliometrics, citation analysis, and altmetrics. While completing his Ph.D. at Indiana University, Bloomington, Timothy taught multiple graduate level courses as an adjunct faculty member and participated in various NSF and NEH funded grant projects in the fields of Digital Humanities and Scholarly Communication. His area of research interest includes applying social, psychological, linguistic, and philosophical theories and methods to the study of scholarly communication, altmetrics, open science, the academic reward system, and the presentation of self in online environments.
