long overdues

Our library has a policy for long overdue materials that when a patron has $250 worth of overdue materials that are 45 or more days overdue from the original due date to turn the bill over to a law enforcement officer for delivery in person. Then we wait. If your library has a policy of involving the police in such situations, could you please let me know what you do next? Tax Capture Bills Pass House Now Back to Senate

News from the Michigan Library Association: Thank you MLA members and library supporters! And thank you to the Michigan legislature for their outstanding support of our libraries. Your engagement with our Representatives helped pass six of the seven library tax capture relief bills; SB 619 - 624 all passed late last night and early this morning. SB 579 impacting Brownfields did not pass. The House added a technical amendment to the remaining bills so now they go back to the Senate for concurrence. We expect to see that happen this morning. We'll send complete information as soon as the Senate concurs. Watch for an update shortly. Great work library community! A packed room of librarians gathered to discuss and debate the pros and cons of school and public library partnerships. There was a panel of five presenters that included a representative/librarian from the California Department of Education, a County Office of Education librarian, a teacher librarian, a public librarian, and a district librarian. During the session the panel encouraged everyone to talk about what is working, what's not, what needs to happen to move forward, and how we can work together to make it happen. Once the audience understood that they were part of this conversation, they quickly shared ideas, dreams, and concerns. We would like to plan some commemorative activities for this year's MLK Day on January 16th. Our school are in session, so this could include activities at the schools. We are not an especially ethnically diverse area of Northern Michigan and we feel that it is important for our public library to recognize this special day in a meaningful way. Your engagement is critical to our advocacy efforts, supporting library funding and finding relief for libraries from tax capture! The MLA supported seven-bill tax capture package (Senate Bills 579, 619, 620, 621, 622, 623, 624) is awaiting House action. If we want to see library relief from tax capture, we must act now. Lego Activity Tables

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has a Lego activity table and if there has been any concerns about smaller children and choking. I would like to put one out but another staff member has mentioned that Legos can be a problem for younger kids if not properly supervised. Thoughts and advice welcome.
