Traverse City author Jerry Dennis will appear at the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library on Thursday, September 22^nd at 7:00 pm. /Written on the Water: A Retrospective on 30 years of writing about the Great Lakes, canoeing, fishing, natural history, and northern Michigan/ will offer a glimpse into the author’s life as an independent writer in Northern Michigan. Dennis is internationally acclaimed for his books about nature and the outdoors. He most recently spoke at the Library during TEDxALpenaPublicLibraryLive. We welcome presentation and lightening talk proposals sharing your data collection practices and how you are using data to inform your work. Best practices, case studies, projects, and creative ideas are all welcome. Presentation should be 40 minutes long, including time for questions. Lightning talks will be no longer than 10 minutes. The Fall SEMLOL meeting will take place on Friday, November 18, 2016, 1:00pm - 4:00pm at Madonna University’s Livonia campus. Discover Michigan with Ron Rademacher

Hi everyone, We just had Ron Rademacher, author of the *Michigan Backroads* books, back for his final program in a three-part series. His programs were some of our best attended of the summer and many members of the audience were here for the third time. One gentleman even mentioned that Ron was so entertaining, he'd sit through the same three programs all over again. If you're looking for programs that focus on fun things to do right here in our own state, I'd highly recommend Ron. Doing Away With Computer Towers?!

We are in the process of revamping and updating our patron computers. One of the options we are looking at is doing away with the towers and going to a " Session Based Remote Desktop Infrastructure". Basically, it's putting all the computers on a remote server and handling everything from there instead of each individual tower. Has anyone done this, or know anyone who has? We are doing a trial with some borrowed equipment, but I would love real-world knowledge.
