The Harper Woods Public Library is currently seeking a friendly, reliable person to fill a part-time custodian position. The position is five days per week, approximately 3 hours per shift to keep the library clean and attractive by performing regular custodial duties plus other occasional duties as assigned. The pay rate will be $11/hour. A fuller job description is below. How does your library handle bankruptcies?

We've had bankruptcies come up on occasion, and we've never been quite sure how to handle them. Does any other library out there have guidelines? How do you deal with lost items? French and Russian Vendors

Dear Everyone, Thank you so much for your previous replies and guidance in helping us locate an alternate Arabic vendor. I have another query for the collective, and I hope that someone can give us some guidance. We are looking for alternate vendors for French and Russian books as we are having difficulties. However, we are unsure of what vendors (if any) provide these languages. Does anyone know of any vendors for French and Russian books, besides multiculturalbooksandvideos.com ? Outcome Measurement Made Easy with PLA's Project Outcome Thursday, 1/12/2017 * 2:00 PM-3:00 PM (Eastern) The Public Library Association's field-driven initiative, Project Outcome, is a FREE online toolkit offering an innovative and easy-to-use platform for public libraries to measure the impact of their programs and services. Staff are able to easily measure patron outcomes using the field-tested surveys, quickly analyze their data using ready-made reports and interactive data dashboards, and take action using the results. For the first time, public libraries have access to an aggregated set of outcome measurement data and analysis tools they can use to affect change within their communities and beyond. Since launching in June 2015, Project Outcome has helped libraries make programmatic improvements, streamline strategic planning and decision making, increase advocacy, and gain funding. This webinar provides an overview of the toolkit and examples of how libraries have been able to benefit from using Project Outcome. Oath of Office

Hello Natalie: As Andrew stated, the Michigan Constitution, Art XI, Sec. 1 mandates that Public officers take an oath of office. Additionally, MCL 168.363<http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?mcl-168-363> states that Township Officers are included within this Constitutional provision. And MCL 168.358<http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?mcl-168-358> lists Public Library Board members ("Directors") as one of several "Public Offices" included within Townships. If the Board member in question does not take the Oath - and file appropriate documentation of that Oath, then it is possible that he/she will be considered to have "denied" the election to the post of Board Member and the seat will be considered vacant Op.Atty.Gen.1955-56, No. 2130, p. 382. Now, MCL168.362<http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?mcl-168-362> (2) states: "A township officer elected in the general election shall remain in office for the full term if the officer failed to take the oath of office within the time prescribed by law and was subsequently appointed by the township board to the office for which the officer ran." This section may seem to contradict the apparent rule that an Oath is required. However, In researching further, it would seem that this subsection simply provides a remedy for an officer who takes the oath late - not one who refuses the oath. There is no legal authority or explanation that I found that seems to excuse APPOINTED officials (as opposed to ELECTED) from the oath requirement. Neither the Constitutional provision cited by Andrew, nor the MCL provisions above indicate in any way that the oath requirement applies to elected officials only. HOWEVER, it would be advisable to confer with your municipal attorney in order to confirm this information and apply it appropriately to your exact situation. I hope this is helpful! Project Outcome Training Coming to Michigan!

Greetings! Public library services put people on the path to literacy, technological know-how, or a better job - but what we are often missing is the data to show it. Outcome measurement helps libraries answer the questions: How can we better measure and demonstrate our community impact? What good did our services do? Would you like to implement outcome measurement in your library? Join us for a Project Outcome Regional Training, a full day, in-person workshop near you! At this workshop, a Project Outcome trainer will facilitate a deep-dive into outcome measurement using Project Outcome tools. You will learn how to deploy outcome measures in your library, collect and use resulting data, and leverage the project's support network to ensure successful adoption. Be a part of a cohort of public libraries interested in implementing Project Outcome to drive change, influence decision making, and demonstrate the true impact of their library's programs and services on the community. The goal of Project Outcome is to help public libraries understand and share the true impact of essential library services.
