YALSA Institute: Teen-Centered & Teen-Driven Library Services The Library of Michigan is pleased to announce that we are hosting a YALSA Institute in Michigan this September. Librarians and public library staff who work with teens are encouraged to attend one of three sessions. Thanks to the support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services the only cost is a $25 registration fee. Space is still open for our Gaylord located workshop<https://www.solutionwhere.com/WW/Aspx/Public/Search/ShowSession.aspx?sessio…>. ALSC Community Forum on Monday, August 14th 2017 Dr. Nicole A. Cooke, Jessica Anne Bratt, and ALSC President Nina Lindsay, will be hosting an ALSC Community Forum live chat on the topic Social Justice Practice in Youth Librarianship. This forum will include a live text discussion with the opportunity to ask questions to our presenters. Circling back to this segment of the "Libraries are Not Neutral Spaces" program from 2017 Annual Conference, we will reopen this discussion on tangible practices of social justice advocacy. How do we practice talking about race and modeling inclusion in storytime? How can we work with our colleagues in actual practice of social justice dialogue? At this Community Forum we will have a conversation in order to move from conversation, so that each of us can return to our work with a new practice. This forum will be held on Monday, August 14th 2017, 4pm. Members are invited to view "3 Ways to Speak English<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJ6eclH7Ooo&authuser=0>" by Jamila Lyiscott and the Anderson Cooper Doll Test <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQACkg5i4AY> before the forum. New MAP Partner Destination: Lost Railway Museum (They Aren't Lost)
by Jim Flury 07 Aug '17

07 Aug '17

All, We are pleased to announce our newest, our 441st, partner destination in the Michigan Activity Pass program. Welcome Lost Railway Museum http://www.lostrailwaymuseum.org/ in Grass Lake to the MAP program! While a lost museum, especially one with a railroad theme, may sound like a sad thing, they aren't really lost, of course. Rather, the museum takes its name from the interurban network of electric railroads which, until mostly dissolving during the Great Depression, played a vital transportation role in early 20th century America https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan_United_Railways Visit the Lost Railway Museum in Grass Lake and experience life when the interurban railroad network was at its peak in Michigan, and throughout the Midwest. Welcome to MAP! Sincerely, Jim Flury Jim Flury Technical Services Manager The Library Network 41365 Vincenti Court Novi, MI 48375 248-536-3100 x133 Fax 248-536-3098 jflury(a)tln.lib.mi.us
