By providing your suggestions now, it allows CSLP the opportunity to contract with illustrators further out into the future and increases CSLP's ability to work with the artists that our members suggest. It also aligns theme suggestions with the strengths of the illustrators and provides more flexibility with integrating their art into the manual production process. This ultimately provides CSLP with the opportunity to provide more products with our artwork, and getting all of our summer reading promotional materials into the hands of our members in a more reasonable time frame. MeL Minute: Did you notice the new MeL homepage?

Greetings Michigan Library Community, Did you notice? MeL went live with a soft launch of a redesigned homepage (codename: Pigeon) at the tail end of 2017. The changes were a direct result of usability testing performed over the winter of 2016 and summer of 2017. Here are the highlights of the redesign: * The only search on the MeL.org homepage<http://mel.org/> is the "new" MeLCat search. Have no fear, Classic MeLCat is still alive and well but now the new MeLCat search is on the MeL homepage. * Searching the available databases for Articles and E-resources can now be accomplished from the Databases page<http://mel.org/databases>. Were you ever curious about the most popular topics among the databases? We've also added links to the top searches on the right hand side of the page, both for easy access and to pique your interest about the great content found in the databases. * We have commissioned a series of videos promoting MeL and we'll roll them out one per month on the homepage. Check back for a new one at the beginning of each month and feel free to share them on your sites or social media venues. They'll be added to our YouTube channel<https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO1dqA8_ZOCfZcHP9OaBGew> as they are available. * The top portals - Kids and Teens - have been moved into the global, black navigation bar that runs across the top of the page under the banner. * The other portals - Business, Jobs, Government, Health, Legal and Books and Literacy - which have always been linked to from the footer, are now found only in the footer and not in the center of the homepage. * The left navigation options have been grouped: For Michigan Residents is on the top, under which we have Practice Tests and Magazines & Newspapers and beneath that we have: For Librarians with the ever-popular MeL Minute and Promotion & Training resources. Striving for excellence - Library Director, Akron-Summit County Public Library (OH) The Akron-Summit County Public Library<http://www.akronlibrary.org/> Board of Trustees seeks a leader with vision and strong collaboration skills for its next Library Director. Key attributes for this position include the ability to foster a team environment, enthusiasm and passion for innovative library services, and a commitment to being a strong community partner. ASCPL, a county district system serving 377,588 residents, is governed by a seven-member Board and supported by a staff of 307 FTE with an annual operating budget of $31 million. The community supports its Library. Seventy percent of voters approved a 2015 levy which makes up 55% of the operating budget. There is also strong support from the Library's Friends groups. The Library provides stellar service to diverse communities-both urban and suburban-through 17 neighborhood branches and the downtown Main Library, and has been recognized as a Star Library by Library Journal each year since 2009. Located about 30 miles south of Cleveland, Akron is the historic center of the tire and rubber industry and was once known as the "Rubber Capital of the World." The City continues to foster entrepreneurial endeavors as a key component of Northeast Ohio's "Polymer Valley" - 45% of Ohio's polymer-related companies are in Akron. Nature lover, arts enthusiast, sports fan, or history buff? Akron has something for you! The area is home to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio's only national park, as well as many historic sites, such as Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens and Hale Farm and Village.
