Newspaper Columns
by Kimberly Young 14 Mar '18

14 Mar '18

Hello to all of you! I have been in a conversation with the editor of our local paper on the idea of library column. I was wondering if any other libraries are doing this sort of thing and if you are willing to share your experiences with reference to the following: 1. Frequency? 2. Topics covered? 3. Who writes? Samples would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your time! Teen Behavior
by Hartford Library 14 Mar '18

14 Mar '18

Dear Directors, Yes, I got the responses on teen behavior in he library, but the question I have is about personal contact. I have two teens in love and they meet at the library everyday. What kind of personal contact should be permitted, hand holding??? I caught them kissing and put a stop to that. Free Webinar: Serving Older Adults and Their Care Partners at Your Library
by Atkin, Evette (MDE) 14 Mar '18

14 Mar '18

Does your library strive to reach all members of your service population? If "inclusion for all" fits your library's mission, check out the free webinar below, brought to you by InfoPeople. By 2030, projections indicate that 25% of the US population will be 65 or older. This means that libraries will be serving a steadily increasing number of older patrons and their care partners. This webinar will help you understand and adapt to these users' changing needs. During this one-hour session you'll experience an empathy-building aging simulation activity. We'll also address biases on aging and how to communicate with older adults who are confused. You will have the opportunity to recognize what you are already doing well, and learn how to hone your skills in meeting the unique needs of individual patrons in this age group. At the end of this one-hour webinar, participants will: * Increase their awareness and knowledge concerning various aspects of the aging process * Develop empathy for older adults' functional losses and related feelings * Identify at least one thing you are already doing well in meeting the needs of older adult patrons (and their care partners), and one action you can take to enhance the elder-friendly environment at your library Register Now!<https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/8173202482078435585> Evette M. Ok I need help....I know most of you realize that most days...lol. I have never had to hire anyone from outside of the community.I have come to the realization that we will no longer get a worker who plans on staying here forever and whom everyone grew up with.I have 6 applicants for the position. I need to interview them. I know mostof this is basic knowledge...but do any of you have a list of questions that I can use to help me? This is a part-time clerk position.Thank you friends!!!
