All- This might be a good time to remind everyone of RIDES policy. "Participating libraries may use RIDES to ship any circulating materials from their collection as well as photocopies of articles, book chapters, and other non-returnables." We **LOVE** that you all share with each other, but RIDES is simply not able to make special pick up or delivery of large volumes of materials that go beyond the normal restrictions. Remember: Everything has to be shipped inside a RIDES tote, and the tote should not exceed 40 lbs. If you plan to send out more than your normal volume of materials, your driver may not be able to take them all at once. Pickford Community Library Honored as a Top Library in the 2017 Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge

PICKFORD COMMUNITY LIBRARY HONORED AS A TOP LIBRARY IN THE 2017 SCHOLASTIC SUMMER READING CHALLENGE The Pickford Community Library has reason to celebrate! It was designated as a "Top Library" in the United States in the 2017 <http://www.scholastic.com/summer> Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. This is the first year Scholastic is recognizing the contributions of libraries and community partners along with schools in the challenge. The Pickford Community Library coordinated and administrated the challenge for Pickford Public Schools, area homeschoolers, and participants from other Eastern Upper Peninsula schools. These students read more than 235,764 minutes from May 8 to September 8 this summer. In addition, the local community provided outstanding support for the library's "piggyback rewards program" in which students earned prizes all summer long. The Pickford Community Library will be featured in 2018 Scholastic Book of World Records and will receive a commemorative plaque and a celebration kit to recognize student reading achievements. This summer, children in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., two U.S. territories and 14 countries read 138,399,392 million minutes in the 2017 Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. Wayne State SIS Announces Master of Science in Information Management

Wayne State University School of Information Sciences Announces Master of Science in Information Management DETROIT - Oct. 12, 2017 - The Wayne State University School of Information Sciences has announced a new master of science in information management (MSIM) degree. The program, which will begin in the winter 2018 semester, will prepare students for careers in information management and related fields. The 30-credit MSIM is offered fully online, allowing students to learn remotely regardless of location. Students have multiple specializations to choose from, including software tools, web-based information systems, data analytics, health and scientific data management, and user experience. "At a time when data and information in all forms are becoming increasingly important, adding the MSIM allows us to tailor our degree offerings more closely to the competencies that students' varying career interests demand," said Stephen Bajjaly, associate dean and professor at the School of Information Sciences. The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts good to excellent growth prospects for the various information management subspecialties. Since data is a strategic resource in virtually every organization today, employees with up-to-date information management skills and competencies are more employable than those who are lacking. "The new MSIM degree prepares an information workforce with the skills that are needed to thrive in data-intensive environments," explained Associate Professor Dr. Deborah Charbonneau. "A wide range of disciplines have experienced an explosion of data, including health and the sciences. Graduates of the new program will be well-positioned to embark on exciting career paths as a data analyst, health informatician, data scientist, and network systems administrator." The newest degree is being offered in addition to the master of library and information science program and expands on the graduate certificate in information management.
