We had Amberrose Hammond, a lecturer and local history enthusiast, come talk about Michigan's ghostly lore, legends, haunted history, forgotten criminals, strange places ... More people attended than registered (37 total) which is always a good problem to have. Amberrose was funny, personable and the subject matter kept everyone's attention. She is doing this program again at Bloomfield PL next week so you can check her out there if you want to get a feel for her talk. Well, worth the money if you are looking for something spooky for next October, or anytime. Michigan Cooperative Director-closes in a week-Sunday, October 29!

Cooperative Director - Lakeland Library Cooperative (MI) Lead Lakeland Library Cooperative<http://www.llcoop.org/>-an innovative and accomplished Michigan library cooperative-to continue outstanding levels of service and effective resource sharing. The Executive Board of the Cooperative (headquartered in suburban Grand Rapids), seeks an experienced library leader-responsive to member libraries, staff, and community needs, and skilled in focusing the efforts of a team of talented professionals-as its next Cooperative Director. Lakeland, one of eleven Michigan cooperatives, works in partnership with its 42-member public libraries providing essential services. With a $1.1 million annual budget (funded primarily from local property taxes) and 11FTE system staff, LLC serves an eight-county region in western Michigan with a service population of 1.2 million people. Member libraries range from small, rural libraries to very large urban libraries. LLC is a member-focused organization-40 libraries participate in resource sharing through a shared ILS with daily courier service. All Lakeland libraries participate in reciprocal borrowing and belong to MeLCat, the statewide interlibrary loan system. The University of Michigan School of Information *Clinical Assistant Professor* The School of Information at the University of Michigan (UMSI) seeks a clinical-track professor at the assistant level. This position will teach courses that have significant engaged learning components through applied practice and engagement with community and industry partners. We are particularly interested in teaching and practice experience in one or more of the following areas: - Citizen engagement – such as those who have worked within information technology to increase citizen participation; - Information and communication technology for development – such as those who have worked with NGOs/governments/non-profits to help underserved populations use technology to increase social mobility, community well-being and economic development; - Making – such as developers/designers of maker spaces/curricula in the context of schools/libraries/museums; - Design – someone who has been a designer and can introduce UMSI students to design thinking and help them apply design thinking to solve real world problems; and - Innovation and entrepreneurship – someone who has been an entrepreneur and can help UMSI students to approach problems from an entrepreneurial perspective. The Clinical Assistant Professor will work closely with our newly created Office of Professional and Community Engagement, who staff and coordinate several ongoing engaged learning programs at UMSI, including Citizen Interaction Design and the Global Information Engagement Program. The successful candidate engages in professional activity that complements our existing areas of expertise, such as computer-supported cooperative work; incentive-centered design; digital curation; information seeking, sharing and use; community informatics; Internet-scale data, network and text analysis; social computing; and health informatics. We are especially interested in qualified applicants whose research addresses important social problems, opportunities, and questions associated with the aforementioned areas of interest to the School. In additional to teaching, this position will be responsible for mentoring students. The School’s strong commitment to service carries with it the expectation of service to the School, university, and external communities and this service will be expected to have impact and influence on the communities served. Less emphasis will be placed on scholarly publication and a formal research record, but candidates will be expected to be able to demonstrated outstanding work at the level of professional engagement and practice through a variety of professional products. As with all faculty, criteria for appointment will include evaluation of the impact of the faculty member’s work in the community of their peers as well as those they serve in their practice, but for clinical faculty, impact will be measured in ways beyond scholarly publication. The mission of the School of Information is to create and share knowledge to help people use information -- with technology -- to build a better world. A successful candidate will be committed to, and will directly contribute to our goal of being the best research and teaching institution for the understanding and design of information and its technologies in service of people and society.
