Question for Township Libraries
by Rebecca Higgerson 19 Jun '18

19 Jun '18

Hello PA 164 libraries! We are a township library and our township treasurer stated that the library cannot have its own credit card for library purchases. When I checked with our attorney, she said that technically that is correct. However, she has never come across a similar situation. So, my questions for all of you: Do you have a township-approved credit card? If not, how do you handle these kinds of small purchases? Pre-paid card? Personal credit card? Thanks in advance! *Rebecca Higgerson* Director Brandon Twp Public Library 304 South Street Ortonville MI 48462 248-627-1474 248-627-9880 (fax) *“We enhance and strengthen community by providing open access to educational information, recreational materials, and programs that enrich lives and promote lifelong learning.”*

Religion in the library compiled
by Don Priest 18 Jun '18

18 Jun '18

Thanks again to everyone who has responded. It's easy to see how this could be a divisive issue, given the variety of answers and viewpoints I've received! Not sure yet what I'll do, or even if something needs to be done, but I'm certainly better prepared to tackle the issue now. The compiled responses are attached, minus those who wanted to remain private. I left names out in any case, just to be safe. Don Priest Southgate Veterans Memorial Library 14680 Dix-Toledo Rd. Speaker Recommendation
by Lynn Skazalski 18 Jun '18

18 Jun '18

Mariya Fogarasi has given two excellent presentations at Caroline Kennedy Library, one on Korea and one on Berlin, both places where she lived. In each presentation she gave a historical introduction and then a cultural tour. Mrs. Fogarasi speaks fluidly without notes and uses a PowerPoint for visuals. For her Korea talk she dressed in a hanbok, the traditional clothing. Both presentations were well attended, and we received excellent oral and written feedback. She will return to give a presentation on Budapest, another place where she lived. Ms. Fogarasi’s speaking fee is $100. For greater distances, she may request additional for mileage. She is located in metro Detroit and makes occasional visits to northern Michigan, so upstate libraries may also wish to contact her. In addition, Mrs. Fogarasi created wonderful displays in our library’s showcase to promote her programs. She may be willing to do the same for other libraries for a negotiable fee. Please refer to the attachments for photos of displays as well as Mrs. Fogarasi in her hanbok.
