MCLS soft skills courses
by Jan Davidson 20 Jun '18

20 Jun '18

All five new soft skills courses offered by MCLS have filled up in record time! We are so pleased that library staff seem to be agreeing with us that these will be valuable workshops, and the benefit to our members we were hoping they would be. Please note that if you are interested in earning the Certificate of Library Development in Soft Skills, you have three years from your first course to complete all five courses, so if you were only able to sign up for one or two this first offering, you have plenty of time to take the others later. We are planning to offer all of these courses again in the future, so stay tuned for new opportunities. We will send out information on the lists and on our website (https://store.mcls.org/) when new dates are scheduled and added. Thanks so much for your interest! ********************** Jan Davidson Administrative Assistant, Member Engagement & Training Coordinator Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) Phone: 517-492-3811 / toll-free 800-530-9019 x111 davidsonj(a)mcls.org<mailto:davidsonj@mcls.org> Check out the MCLS Training Calendar at: https://store.mcls.org/

Adult Program recommendation for Rick Broida
by Patricia Braden 20 Jun '18

20 Jun '18

We had a great low-cost adult program called 7 Ways to Save Money Online with Rick "the cheapskate" Broida. In his program, Rick describes websites and other online tools you can use to save when shopping online. I highly recommend it. Looking for a supply of Red Tag EM DVD Security tags
by Smith, Steve 19 Jun '18

19 Jun '18

We've been looking for a place to purchase a supply or Red Tag DVD security locks, EM style only. They used to be made by 3M, but Amaray took over production. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that anyone makes them anymore. We were hoping that someone out there might have some old ones that they don't need. Here is a photo of a couple of different styles that worked for us. [cid:image001.jpg@01D407EF.EAD40A50] Steven F. Advances in Library Administration and Organization: Call for chapter proposals
by Elizabeth Martin 19 Jun '18

19 Jun '18

Call for proposals Advances in Library Administration and Organization Critical Librarianship and Library Management Publication due 2020 Series Editor: Samantha Hines, Peninsula College Volume Editor: David Ketchum, University of Oregon The critical librarianship movement has shone light on many aspects of our profession and encouraged us to question why we do things the way we do them. One area underexplored in this moment, however, is library management: Are there management practices that need to be questioned or interrogated? Are there progressive practices that have not received the recognition they deserve? ALAO seeks submissions for the “Critical Librarianship and Library Management” volume that delve beyond examples and case studies to critically examine library management. Proposals in the following areas would be of particular interest: * Implicit bias and library management/operations * Retention and hiring for diversity and inclusion * Social justice in library leadership and management This will be the first volume of Advances in Library Administration and Organization (ALAO) to publish in 2020. About the Advances in Library Administration and Organization series: ALAO<http://www.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/products/books/series.htm?id=0732-0671> offers long-form research, comprehensive discussions of theoretical developments, and in-depth accounts of evidence-based practice in library administration and organization. The series answers the questions, “How have libraries been managed, and how should they be managed?” It goes beyond a platform for the sharing of research to provide a venue for dialogue across issues in a way that traditional peer reviewed journals cannot. Through this series, practitioners glean new approaches in challenging times and collaborate on the exploration of scholarly solutions to professional quandaries. How to submit: We are currently seeking proposals for the 2019 volume on Critical Librarianship and Library Management. If you are interested in contributing to this volume, please send a proposal including a draft abstract of 500 words or less, author details and estimated length of final submission to Samantha Hines at shines(a)pencol.edu<mailto:shines@pencol.edu> by August 31, 2018. Submission deadlines: Submission deadline for proposals: August 31, 2018 Notification of acceptance sent by: October 31, 2018 Submission deadline for full chapters: February 28, 2019 Comments returned to authors: April 30, 2019 Submission deadline for chapter revisions: June 15, 2019 -- Beth Martin Head of Professional Programs GVSU Libraries DEV 132A martelia(a)gvsu.edu<mailto:martelia@gvsu.edu> 616.331.7344
