Have you tried using Thriftbooks? I know we use that here at our library for the books leftover from our book sale and I've used it personally as well and always had a great experience with them. I'm not sure exactly how good they are when it comes to what they will accept and how much is gained through it but perhaps it's looking into. Hope this helps! We divide and repackage most of our seeds, but quantity depends on the kind of seed. For larger seeds that are easy to count, like beans and squash, about 6-12 seeds per pack. Some more 'rare' seeds it may average less per pack so that I can get them out to more growers. For others that I have a large quantity of, it can average more. For small seeds that are harder to count, like mint or chamomile, I will pour out a commercial packet and divide them into smaller piles. I find an index card works well for this. I also use a pill counter tray. We accept donations — home grown seed, commercial packs, opened packages, leftovers. We try to encourage seed saving and home grown seed, as well as any open-pollinated seed. We don't need print management- our printer is set up for Papercut. We don't even need the option for reservations as computer usage is down from years ago and we rarely have anyone waiting. We're looking for a program that will lock PCs until a patron logs in with their library card or a guest pass, will block cardholders who don't have computer permissions, will automatically log a patron off when their time expires, will automatically shut down at the end of the night, and will give me usage reports. Being able to view a patron's screen would be a bonus. What does your library use, and how do you like it? What is support like- are they responsive? Easy to work with? Has anyone recently worked with Librarica's CASSIE? Our previous IT person worked with them a decade ago and had nothing good to say about the setup process or their support, but it's been quite a while and staff and technology change. I'm also interested in mConsole, but have been having trouble getting a hold of them, and that doesn't bode well. I appreciate any opinions! I can collect and share replies if anyone is interested. At my seed library we accept donations from businesses, seed companies, seed swaps, and home gardeners. Part of the mission of our seed library is to educate the public about saving seeds and encouraging them to grow for the seed library to help it become self-sustaining. The amount of donations ebbs and flows, but has been quite strong the last few years. We support the seed library with lots of programming. I try to estimate how many seeds per packet based on how many seeds will produce something to eat and hopefully they can save a few seeds and increase the quantity. These are sample packets, not enough to grow a giant garden. We have to share the wealth with as many people as possible. Beans and peas 20 per pack. Same for corn, enough to grow a block of (4) 4' rows Squash, cucumbers, melons - enough for 2 hills or 4 feet of trellis so about 10 seeds Packets of small seeds like carrots and lettuce get a healthy pinch that usually has 30-40 seeds Beets, chard, parsnips around 16-20, enough for a 4' row. Okra, roselle, sunflowers 10 or so. Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes, peppers: 8-12 Most flowers at least 10-15. Thoughts on Future Computer/Laptop Configurations and Study Pod Purchases in Small, Rural Public Libraries

Hello, My library has been entertaining different ideas lately about: 1) Adding small study pods within our existing library space to accommodate the growing need for more study/private work spaces (for reference, we have one main study room that cannot be reserved ahead of time, and a local history room that has become a second study room when not otherwise occupied; and 2) Re-imagining our future public computer setup. We currently have 8 public desktop computers (recently having decreased from 10 total desktops) that are rarely all in use at once, and are most heavily utilized by those needing to print specific documents. All our computers are starting to show their age, having been last replaced/updated in 2019. My director has wondered aloud if we might be better serving patrons by moving completely to laptops with wireless printing capabilities, and having a smaller number of overall computers moving forward? I wondered if anyone has moved to solutions that they have loved (and what companies you've purchased with, if willing to share vendor info); and, if there are down sides to study pods versus more traditional study rooms, and to laptops versus desktop computers in libraries. I'm interested in these from both a staff and patron viewpoint, as well as whether these would be more expensive to undergo these changes. We are often asked to provide evidence of library value. How we obtain, interpret, and share our data can demonstrate this value to our communities. Being able to communicate effectively and convey the story of the library through data is one of the best ways to engage a community and get them excited about your mission.
