Tigers Stadium book and program by Doc Fletcher
by Wendy Mutch 21 May '19

21 May '19

Fellow Librarians, After writing 9 books about the joy of canoeing & kayaking rivers, lifelong Michigan resident Doc Fletcher moves to dry land for his latest book: "The History of Tiger Stadium: A Love Letter to Baseball at Michigan & Trumbull" , honoring The Cathedral at The Corner. Doc is an engaging speaker and draws a large audience (100% of registered attendees!) and I highly recommend him. I've included the cover of the 375-page book, his program description, available dates and contact information. His honorarium is $300, plus mileage if an hour or more away from his Northville home. Wendy Mutch Northville District Library The History of Tiger S tadium: A Love Letter to Baseball at Michigan & Trumbull honors The Cathedral at The Corner where - together with great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts, siblings, children, godchildren, & friends - we have cheered our Detroit Tigers. Although the structure is gone, the memories remain... "It was a night game, the field a shade of green that was the most beautiful color I'd ever seen, the smells, sounds, and sights of the pre-game action delightfully overwhelming... the air filled with the bouquet of hot dogs, spilt beer, and a cigar aroma much like that of the House of Windsor stogies preferred by my Dad. Cries of the vendors peddling those items pierced the air. Several Tigers were engaged in a game of pepper along the box seats down the right field foul line, as nearby Bill Freehan tossed a ball back 'n forth with a teammate, entertaining the fans by playfully catching the ball behind his back." Doc will share stories from the book of the characters on the field, in the stands, and those in the neighborhoods surrounding the ballpark, as well as about the broadcasters who brought the action to us when we couldn't be there ourselves. 50% Savings! Bulk Order Opportunity For Belle Isle to 8 Mile: An Insider's Guide to Detroit, 2nd Edition
by Jim Flury 21 May '19

21 May '19

Good Afternoon, TLN is offering a bulk order opportunity, a 50% savings, for the just published 2nd edition of the highly popular title Belle Isle to 8 Mile: An Insider's Guide to Detroit . To quote the publisher blurb "As the most popular printed guide to Detroit, the book features nearly 1,500 Detroit attractions, sites, institutions, events, restaurants, bars, shops, and curiosities, from the essential to the obscure. Fully revised and expanded for 2019, this new edition includes 45 new illustrations, and more than 500 new entries." Etc. The list price of the book is $25.99. But you can order the book via the special TLN price of only $12.99, plus an additional TLN $1.00 per book charge to help partially offset the cost of this project. In order to take advantage of this 50% discount we absolutely have to place the bulk order to the publisher by no later than close of business on Friday, May 31, 2019. As that is the case, we must have your order by no later than close of TLN business on Friday, May 24, 2019 . There can be no exceptions to this, given the somewhat limited time frame in which we will be working to process your orders, which I am told reached a total of 177 when we offered a bulk buy opportunity for the 1st edition of this book. Again, please send your orders to me by no later than close of TLN business on Friday, May 24, 2019. Library cooperative directors, if you could please share this with member library staff who may not be subscribed to Michlib-l, I would be most appreciative. Thanks. Iditarod Program
by Crystal Jacklovitz 21 May '19

21 May '19

Hi Everyone, We had Kim Darst from Husky Haven Kennels come to our library last night to give a presentation on her 2009 Iditarod Experience! It was a great turnout, and highly informative. She did two presentations, one for the North Dickinson Elementary (Grades K-5) and one for our Main Branch in Iron Mountain. She brings along her dog Mitch and does a great job of explaining the different sled dog techniques and answering questions. All the proceeds go to her kennel where she has 48 Sled Dogs! She is interested in doing more programs in Michigan and I highly recommend her. https://www.huskyhavenkennels.com/ choprwmn(a)yahoo.com 906-452-6014 Cabin 516-790-9183 Cell Crystal S. PuppetART - performers
by Dave Ewick 21 May '19

21 May '19

Hello Everyone, Southfield is the new home of PuppetART, formerly located in downtown Detroit. PuppetART is partnering with the Southfield Public Library for some performances & workshops and I wanted to share their info with other libraries. They are a non-profit company that has been in operation over 20 years. They are classically trained puppeteers originally from Russia, but they present tales from around the world and do so in the most exquisite manner. They use marionettes, stick puppets, hand puppets, and even whole body puppets to tell stories like the Snow Queen, Anansi, The Crane Maiden, Turtle Island, Sleeping Beauty and The Firebird. Additionally, they do workshops for children on building puppets; and more in depth workshops for adults on creating puppets/presenting puppet shows. These guys are amazing! I highly recommend their work. I've attached two pdf files of their brochures but if you want to learn more you can also visit their website at: www.puppetart.org . Have a great Summer Reading Program! Dave David L.
