Credit Card Processing Options
by Lyons Library 17 Jan '20

17 Jan '20

Thank you all so much for the great (and quick) responses regarding options for credit card transactions, I will definitely be looking into these! I was asked if I could share the responses for those of you who were also thinking about offering credit card transactions. Here are the options that I have received so far: PayPal Square Point&Pay Stripe Chase Paymentech g2gcloud.com Also, I had a tip that not all ILSes work with all vendors so it is important to find out what will work with your specific ILS in order to avoid any double entries or potential errors. Thank you Lissa for that important information! Thanks again everyone! Jennifer Kreiner Director Lyons Township District Library (989) 855-3414

by Atkin, Evette (MDE) 17 Jan '20

17 Jan '20

Do you want your library recognized for the amazing work you do? Are you looking for a way to promote the achievements of your library with stakeholders? Join us for a 30-minute webinar on the basics of QSAC, the latest benchmark updates and how you library can become a QSAC library. To register, please visit https://libraryofmichigan.z2systems.com/np/clients/libraryofmichigan/event.…. QSAC is a voluntary management standards program that assists public libraries by setting benchmarks for Governance & Administration, Human Resources, Services, Collection Development, Technology, Facilities & Equipment and Public Relations. The Library of Michigan recognizes public libraries as they achieve each level. Libraries can be certified at the Essential, Enhanced and Excellent levels. Libraries that meet the qualifications for the Enhanced and Excellent levels receive a plaque to display in their building. Basic requirements for QSAC certification: To achieve certification at a level, a library must meet the requirements for state aid to public libraries, the measures at that level and the measures at all levels below that level. Youth & Teen Services Updates
by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 17 Jan '20

Wandoo Reader FREE accounts for public libraries in Michigan are still available for setting up summer reading or any other year-round reading programs your library runs. If interested, please have the library director request an account to be set-up from me at lancasterc5(a)michigan.gov<mailto:lancasterc5@michigan.gov> and I'll send the link/information on how to get that set-up. We will be having staff from Demco doing hands-on training at SRLC<https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/0,9327,7-381-88855_89737-142226-…>, so make sure you get an account set-up before the conference in April. Our Planet: Earth During April 2020, the STAR Library Network (STAR Net) is celebrating the important role that Earth plays in our lives with a special month-long campaign called, Our Planet: EARTH<http://www.starnetlibraries.org/our-planet-earth/>. This national campaign is an outgrowth of three converging events during April 2020: Citizen Science Month, the 50thAnniversary of Earth Day, and the recent adoption by the American Library Association (ALA) of "sustainability" as a new core value of librarianship. As described by ALA, to be truly sustainable, libraries and their communities need to embody practices that are environmentally sensible, economically viable, and socially equitable. Partners include ALA, SciStarter, Globe Observer, and many others. Libraries across the country can register to join the campaign and access a number of resources including earth science activities, a media toolkit, videos, images, posters, and connections to ALA's SustainRT and citizen science programs. The campaign is sponsored by NASA through STAR Net's NASA@ My Library program that is managed by the Space Science Institute. Campaign goals include: 1) provide libraries with rich and effective resources that they can use to develop engaging environmental programs, 2) promote citizen science opportunities, and 3) build lasting collaborations around environmental sustainability both within the library community and beyond. It will focus on positive, climate-friendly actions that local communities can make such as planting trees, recycling efforts, protecting species and their habitats, safeguarding clean air and water, and engaging in a variety of citizen science projects. Citizen science engages volunteers in the collection and analysis of data relating to the natural world, typically as part of a collaborative project with professional scientists. Citizen scientists of all ages can make amazing discoveries, inspire new projects, and help learners of all ages do real scientific research Learn more & register: http://www.starnetlibraries.org/our-planet-earth/ YALSA The official titles of YALSA's 2020 Amazing Audiobooks<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fala.us1.l…> and Quick Picks for Reluctant YA Readers<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fala.us1.l…> lists have been released.
