Covid19 resources for Michigan Public Libraries
by Shannon White - Library of Michigan 19 Mar '20

19 Mar '20

Greetings! With so much information changing how libraries operate during the pandemic, we thought it would be helpful to provide a simple guide to the various directives. Because situations are so fluid, we can't guarantee the list is exhaustive, but we will continue to provide additional information as we receive it. (Please copy and paste the URL into your browser if you are having trouble with any links below.) Resources and Information: Executive Order (EO) 2020-9 (Limiting access to places of Public Accommodation). This EO requires restaurants, bars, and other places of amusement and food service, including public libraries, to close to the public. https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer/0,9309,7-387-90499_90705-521789--,00.html Application of this executive Order to public libraries for purposes of delivery or pick up ("curbside") services is unclear. The Library of Michigan urges and library offering or contemplating the offering of "curbside" or similar service to members of the public to consult their local County Public Health Departments, or their local Emergency Management officials, if applicable. Staff at LM has heard from libraries that county health departments are giving different answers to this question. At this time we have no other information from the Governor's office. Michigan County Health Departments by map: https://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/0,5885,7-339--96747--,00.html Executive Order 2020-15- Local Public Meetings and Open Meetings Act (OMA) Compliance - Provides some guidance on convening public meetings (and complying with the OMA) during the pandemic by holding meetings using remote technology. https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer/0,9309,7-387-90499_90705-522173--,00.html Library of Michigan information sheet on remote public meetings (Above executive order expands this somewhat) https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/0,9327,7-381-88855_89735_89755-5… Library of Michigan information sheet on Emergency Decision Making for library boards https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/0,9327,7-381-88855_89735_89755-5… Michigan Library Association Call to Action to support Congressional support of Coronavirus Relief and Economic Stimulus bill https://www.milibraries.org/call-to-action The MLA also has suggestions, resources and recommendations for libraries as they cope with Covid19. https://www.milibraries.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=78… HR 6201- Families First Coronavirus Response Act- Federal legislation awaiting the president's signature. Survey: COVID-19 and Public Libraries
by Stephen Bajjaly 19 Mar '20

19 Mar '20

Ask a Librarian Your Question?: Hello, My name is Rachel Williams, and I am an assistant professor in the School of Library and Information Science at Simmons University. I am conducting a survey that examines how public libraries are responding to the recent COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreaks across the world. According to the Centers for Disease Control, COVID-19 is "a new coronavirus that has not been previously identified" which causes illness that can spread quickly within communities. As the virus continues to spread, its impact on communities continues to grow. Public libraries are responding, and it is vital that we understand how public libraries are taking action right now. We are interested in learning about how public libraries are responding, as well as how public library staff are individually handling this pandemic. Here is a link to the survey: https://simmons.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2ftJsOKHpgRDkEd Would you mind sharing with your public libraries list serv? Please feel free to share the survey with other libraries and library staff. If you have questions about the research, please contact the principal investigator, Rachel Williams, at rachel.williams(a)simmons.edu<mailto:rachel.williams@simmons.edu>. If you have questions about your rights as a human subject, you may also contact the Human Protections Administrator in the Office of Sponsored Programs at Simmons University at irbprotocols(a)simmons.edu<mailto:irbprotocols@simmons.edu>. by Atkin, Evette (MDE) 19 Mar '20

19 Mar '20

Librarians Respond to Coronavirus and Other Pandemics Library 2.0<https://www.library20.com/> is presenting a special broadcast Librarians Respond to Coronavirus and Other Pandemics<https://www.library20.com/pandemicpanel> on March 26, 2020 at 4pm EDT. Three librarians active in state, regional, and national initiatives, will discuss roles librarians in all types of settings can take on during public health emergencies such as the current coronavirus outbreak. Not only do librarians support their specific patrons, they also serve a larger public community. The unique combination of research and evaluation skills is essential in times when myths and misinformation fuel fear around these types of events. Credible resources, ways to partner with internal and external agencies, and ideas on how to add value to your institution will all be covered in this one-hour webinar. No registration is required, just make sure you're a member of Library 2.0 (free). You will need to be logged into Library 2.0 to participate in the webinar or watch the recording afterwards. The event will be held in Zoom and simulcast/overflow on YouTube. Evette M. Atkin Continuing Education Consultant Library of Michigan atkine(a)michigan.gov<mailto:atkine@michigan.gov>

Curbside delivery
by Margaret Bentley 19 Mar '20

19 Mar '20

We have been providing curbside delivery, but our local state of emergency management team is recommending that it be discontinued. There is no need to respond to this, but libraries may want to contact their own local officials. Margaret Bentley Adult Services Librarian Shiawassee District Library--Owosso 502 W. Free training on how to work from home
by Reed, Nyama 18 Mar '20

18 Mar '20

Hello Everyone, We offer Lynda.com to our patrons and I received this info from our rep that they created a list of online training on working from home AND have made it free for everyone through "next week" (I'm guessing Fri 3/27). Passing this on in case it is useful for you or your staff. Best of Luck, Nyama ------------------------------------------------------ "Also, thought I would share this. I have had quite a few clients reach out and request resources and specific courses on LinkedIn Learning to set them up for remote work success. Our curators put together a playlist of courses specifically to help people work remotely. Since you have patrons who might be asked to work from home, I thought this might be useful. These 16 courses are unlocked through next week, so feel free to share with your patrons, staff, or friends who might benefit from this as it is a free learning path. Let me know if you need anything else, we are happy to assist you and your patrons with through this tough time! Link: Remote Working: Setting Yourself and Your Teams Up for Success<https://nam06.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.linke…> Patrons can also search these same 16 courses on Lynda.com 1.
