Trainings for Michigan library staff on facilitating effective meetings and conversations Do you lead meetings at your library? Do you ever need to facilitate conversations between staff or patrons, and wish you had more training in how to do so effectively? Ever feel ill equipped to handle situations of conflict in a meeting or guide groups to agreement? MCLS will again be offering, in partnership with the Library of Michigan, training presented by We Can Work It Out, LLC<http://www.wecanworkitoutllc.com/> on essential skills for library staff to facilitate effective conversations and meetings. These skills can be used in a variety of settings including staff and work meetings, strategic planning sessions, one-on-one interactions with library patrons, library-sponsored Community Conversations, and focus groups. These workshops, to be held this year online (for your safety and convenience) in September and October, will include learning theory, as well as practice of skills and peer feedback. They will still be very interactive, and we are excited to add a module on facilitating meetings virtually! Because they are funded by the Library of Michigan, these trainings are only open to staff of Michigan libraries. Registration is now open for these small, interactive workshops and we expect them to fill fast, so find out more and claim your spot<https://www.mcls.org/training-events/events/facilitation-training-2020/> today! This project is made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services<https://www.imls.gov/>, with additional funding provided by the State of Michigan<https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/>. ********************** Jan Davidson Project Manager Engagement, Consulting, and Training Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) 517-492-3811 / toll-free 800-530-9019 x111 davidsonj(a)mcls.org<mailto:davidsonj@mcls.org>

Greetings from Michigan Humanities! Last week, our August e-news<https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Michigan-Humanities-August-2020-Enews.h…> included details about the new Bridging Michigan programming and grant opportunities that we are excited to kick off this Thursday, 8/13. This Thursday's event will feature Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha and Stephen Henderson in conversation about the impacts of systemic inequities on health and education (register here<https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_VVtw0bG5TmGY42AGU_9Icw>). Staff Updates
by Andrea Ingmire 10 Aug '20

10 Aug '20

With the near constant changes we're all experiencing, I wondered if anyone had found a great way to effectively communicate the current status of services with staff. Ideally, I'd love a 'living document' or 'wiki' platform that is very searchable and easy to contribute to. I'd like all staff to be able to quickly find an answer to patron questions by searching one spot. Reducing the number of transfers and 'we'll get back with you' responses. I'd also like it to be somewhat secure. I don't think this info is top secret, but it's intended audience is staff, so it seems like there should be some layer of security in place. I know that I can use google docs, so if I can't find anything better, I can go that route. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ *Andrea IngmireLibrary DirectorPeter White Public Library* (906) 226-4303 (office) (906) 250-0080 (cell) (906) 226-1783 (fax) *http://pwpl.info/ <http://pwpl.info/>*

Re: [Michlib-l] Need Help with a Reference Question About a Book Title
by Thompkins, Jana 10 Aug '20

Glad to hear that might be the right book! I searched for Delgado and from his Wikipedia page, tried to look at the one edited volume listed in his works, whose publication date lined up with your recollection. I then tried to find a table of contents for the book in WorldCat and then in Google Books and the Internet Archive but had no luck. Hopefully you'll find what you're looking for when you get the book in your hands! *Jana Thompkins, MLIS * Academic Librarian Michigan School of Psychology p: 248.509.5383 (Google Voice) f: 248.476.1125 w: www.msp.edu <https://msp.edu/> F O L L O W M S P : [image: Facebook] <https://www.facebook.com/mspedu/> [image: LinkedIn] <https://www.linkedin.com/school/michigan-school-of-psychology/> [image: Twitter] <https://twitter.com/mspedu/>
