Hello Fellow Public Librarians, I know we are all looking for quality programming ideas that can be done virtually. The Jackson District Library is transitioning one of our most popular programs into a digital program that I would like to recommend to all of you. Over the past 12+ years, the Jackson District Library has hosted Larry Martin's In Their Own Words ([ http://lmww2.com/ | Larry Martin's WWII In Their Own Words ] at our Carnegie Branch. Also during this time Larry has also done this program in libraries around the state of Michigan, and it always gets a great response. "In Their Own Words" has drawn between 80 and 150 attendees per event. An estimated 5,000 people have come to hear the reflections and experiences of WWII veterans that Larry has interviewed. We will begin hosting Larry once a month for a Zoom/Facebook Live program until the end of 2020. Larry will show one of the hundreds of interviews that he has done and then answer questions from the audience. The interviews are always interesting and Larry has interviewed at least one person who experienced every part of WWII, from prisoners of war, to German citizens, to soldiers who survived Pearl Harbor. To hear these men and women discuss there experiences in WWII is truly fascinating. Larry is very excited by the fact that he could provide this program to libraries around the country digitally, so if you are interested in having this amazing program you should reach out to him. Program Recommendation Meet Mae West

Hi all, This week we had a really fun program -- Meet Mae West. Martina Mathisen portrayed Mae West. She was professional, easy to work with, and attentive throughout the planning process - truly pleasant. During the program she engaged the attendees with questions that they responded to via chat. At the end, attendees commented that they were interested in finding out more about Mae West and that the program was "excellent" and "fun". DESCRIPTION: The Part-Time Teen Librarian develops and implements collections, outreach, and programming for teens, parents, and other adults who work with teens. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provides direct reference and reader’s advisory service to patrons of all ages.  Plans and executes collection development in a variety of formats and subject areas, including selection, display, access, analysis, weeding, and budget management. Manages graphic novels, manga and teen AV collections.  Plans and executes programs and services for teens to promote or facilitate the use of library resources. This includes, but is not limited to, seasonal reading programs, book talks, school visits, STEM workshops, and book discussion groups.  Recommends annual goals and objectives for the teen department.  Creates an environment that attracts and invites teens to use the facilities and collections.  Facilitates and maintains teen pages on the library’s official web site, as well as blogs and social networking accounts set up to reach out virtually to the library’s teen patrons.  Works as a liaison with the schools to encourage teens to use the library.  Plymouth community teen champion and advocate.  Attends and participates in staff meetings and committees.  Represents the Library in community organizations.  Performs other tasks as assigned. Greetings! The Library of Michigan is offering a two-part training for Trustees. Part1: Library Trustee 101- November 12, 10:00am-11:00am This session will be an introduction to being a Library Trustee. What to know, who to ask and how to avoid pitfalls. This session will cover the basic information newly appointed or elected library trustees should know in order to begin their tenure governing a public library. City of Menominee, Michigan Job Posting - Library Director Background: The Spies Public Library is the municipal library of Menominee, Michigan - located on the Michigan/Wisconsin border, 50 miles north of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Spies Public Library serves the City of Menominee and through a contractual agreement, Menominee Township. The service population is 9,645, it is a Class III library. The annual operating budget is $520,000 which consists of an authorized tax levy of up to one mill without voter approval and a recent bequest of 1.9 million dollars. The staff consists of 5.25 full-time equivalent staff. The Spies Public Library was constructed in 1903 and received a 1.6-million-dollar addition in 1997. The library is located in Menominee's Historic District on the waters of Green Bay. We have a conference table in good condition which is being replaced by modular tables. We are offering it for $75.00 and buyer must pick up (we can bring it out to curbside for pick up). Be aware it's pretty solid (read kinda heavy) but the legs fold up for easier transport.
