Plant swap program guidance needed

We are looking to host a plant swap.im looking for advice from anyone who had hosted one. How do you not turn it into a free for all? Do you limit plants people can bring to swap? What if a person comes who has no plants But wants to get started via the swap? Length time? The good, the bad and the ugly. Let me know how it went. Also did you have a a gadget on hand to help with questions regarding the plants? Do you give them a half hr to browse and than swap? Space still open for April 28 digital literacy workshop for Michigan library staff!

Register now for a virtual training for Michigan library staff on creating a digital literacy learning plan for library staff, offered by MCLS in partnership with the Library of Michigan. There are still spots available for the workshop dates of April 28, May 4, and May 5! “Unlocking the Secrets of a Digital Literacy Learning Plan for Library Staff” is designed to equip you with the tools and a process to help you build a learning plan around technology and digital literacy skills for library staff. If you wish your library had such a learning plan in place, but you’re not sure where to start or how to organize it, then this workshop is for you! Developing a learning plan is essential in empowering staff to develop digital literacy and technology skills. In this four-hour virtual workshop, participants will learn the basics of creating a digital learning plan for their library that includes how to leverage collective strengths to build skills and how to incorporate technology competencies and create activities to help staff successfully achieve their digital literacy goals. This workshop is designed primarily for public library staff who have some responsibility or involvement in staff training. The workshop is designed to be interactive and will include small group activities in breakout rooms, and the use of a microphone and camera will be required for successful participation. Registration is just $15 and, because it is funded by the Library of Michigan, is open to Michigan Library staff. Each workshop will run from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Eastern with a 45-minute lunch break. This workshop will only be available as live virtual instruction. At the completion of the workshop, continued support will be provided to participants in the form of six monthly virtual coaching calls. This continued support will be completely voluntary and for the purpose of gaining support in creation and implementation of a digital literacy learning plan for participants’ own libraries. Hi, Kim - While I understand I have not seen the comments you are referring to and acknowledge they may be rude, I can also imagine there may be some that are there to simply disagree with the content highlighting diversity and inclusivity. Some questions to consider are: Is that content truly necessary in your area? Are you having actual problems with individuals not feeling included? If your content is media, are you highlighting diversity for diversity's sake or are you truly bringing culture to the community that is of interest? Are you posting content that many would consider political, even if you personally disagree, and therefore alienating a portion of your patronage? Are you pushing the idea that "white" people, a large part of your patronage I'm sure, are racist, oppressive, or must take an apologetic stance for themselves or their country in some way? You may not be, but those ideas tend to go along with the topic these days and some may be offended while making this assumption. Just a possibility...I'm suggesting a "put yourself in their shoes" approach. I've been finding that the topics of race, equity, inclusivity, etc. - anything stemming from critical race theory have been infiltrating everything, including the library world. We need to be very careful not to use libraries for activism and to remain neutral territory. The operative word above is THEORY. Not everyone agrees about the size, nature or solution of this particular problem. As libraries we should not be taking stances and pushing agendas. Having information from all sides of an issue available and leading by example is enough.
