Public Services Librarian (Adult and Teen) Fowlerville District Library is committed to providing a stellar customer experience for its community and guests. We are a small but growing library with plans to expand in both size and scope of services. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Library Director, the Public Services Librarian creates and implements programs and engages with the community through outreach, events, and thoughtful collaboration. The ideal candidate is passionate about the transformative role libraries should have in the lives of the community. They are enthusiastic, creative, collaborative, and excited to deliver out-of-the-box customer experiences. This position will be focused on adult and teen services, but experience with youth services is a plus. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provides and models excellent customer service in all aspects of the job. * Creates, plans, and implements a variety of programs and activities both in and out of the library. * Sets and achieves library’s goals * Provides outreach services * Compiles and shares monthly program statistics * Increases skills and knowledge through professional reading, webinars, and workshops. * Writes grants and implement library grant initiatives. * Facilitates public displays. * Operates up-to-date technology, such as 3D printers and other innovative equipment. * Provides patron-focused reference and reader’s advisory services for all ages using library catalog, Internet search engines, and subscription databases. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Ability to plan, coordinate and direct work. * Ability to always treat co-workers and the public with courtesy and respect. * Strong written, verbal, and technological skills. * Demonstrate emotional intelligence and ability to work through difficult situations. * May work some nights and weekends to support programming and outreach events. QUALIFICATIONS: * Master of Library Science from ALA accredited school required. * Minimum two years librarian experience preferred. Staff member tests positive

Are you closing if a staff member tests positive for COVID-19? We have closed in the past, but I haven't heard of other libraries closing recently for this reason. Are we taking a different approach now, or am I just not hearing about it? What is your procedure now? We have a staff member that is getting tested today, so we're trying to plan... If you are a Class 4 or 5 city library, and your city does not provide financial services for the library, I would like to know: 1. How much do you budget for accounting services? 2. How much do you budget for bookkeeping services? 3. How much do you budget for your annual audit? 4. What is your total operating budget? 5. How much do you budget for payroll services? 6. How many employees do you have? 7. Do you have employees who perform any of the above services for the library? Snow Days and MEL reports

Hello all, Is there a protocol that you follow if a library has a snow day? I am thinking about adjusting the reports we run for MEL to reflect a couple days difference for the days we were closed. [Michlib-I] Blocking Patrons

Hello all, I don't know if any of you remember my email from a month or so ago about overdue items, but here's a little update: I got some back! It was truly a miracle to find them in my dropbox one morning! Unfortunately, not all patrons decide to return their items. There is one who I can't get a hold of, who I'm going to give up on. My questions is this: if they return the books but want them renewed/ want to check out more, but I know they'll likely be checked out and kept for months on end with, again, no means of contact, am I able to just block the account and refuse service? If the books remain checked out and are never returned, I know the account can be blocked for overdue items, and just mark the items as lost. But what happens if you know the patron is incredibly unreliable, and seems to take advantage of the free services? Is it something I need to discuss with my board? I guess that's really more than one question. Has anyone ever dealt with something like this? If so, how did you solve the issue when communication wasn't an option/ didn't work?
