LM Workforce Development Starter Collection Offer

As part of the workforce development support focus in the CARES and LSTA Acts, the Library of Michigan is offering a free starter collection of approximately 10 workforce development print titles. LM will purchase the books and have them shipped via UPS to your library. We ask that you offer the titles to the public as soon as possible. We anticipate the materials will be available this summer. Materials will be shipped to your library from Emery Pratt. Eligible libraries are legally established public libraries or a community college or tribal libraries providing regular public access to a circulating library collection. You may request one set per library location, meaning if you have branches or a bookmobile, you may ask for a set for those locations as well as your main library. New overview webinar on YDL's Talk: Text and Learn for Kindergarten" program: Bringing "Talk: Text and Learn for Kindergarten" to Your Library<https://libraryofmichigan.z2systems.com/np/clients/libraryofmichigan/event.…> Tuesday, May 25, 2021 2:00 PM ET "TALK: Text and Learn for Kindergarten" is an early literacy text messaging service launched by Ypsilanti District Library and partners, with LSTA grant funding. This program will allow libraries across Michigan to text families with activities to do with children 5 and under to prepare them for school and beyond. Libraries will also be able to use the program to promote events and collections to families with young children and get tips for building community partnerships for early literacy. Find out more about this project that will be available for public libraries to implement starting this Fall, with IMLS National Leadership funding. This webinar will be recorded and shared with registrants. Funding Opportunity through Arts Midwest

Arts Midwest has just announced the following funding opportunity Grow, Invest, Gather (GIG) Fund for arts and cultural organizations including Libraries. The GIG Fund provides $2,500 grants to presenting nonprofit organizations to host local or out-of-state touring artists for performances, exhibitions, and workshops. Applications are due by Monday, May 3, 2021. Grants will support costs associated with engaging artists in community experiences as safely as possible given the current circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. Projects/activities should occur between July 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021. Funds are intended for organizations to build their capacity by having multiple points of access to support presenting performing and visual artists of high artistic merit, virtually or in-person.
