Position: Librarian/Director Tahquamenon Area School/Public Library Library Advisory Board is seeking a motivated, creative, and outgoing individual to fill the position of Librarian/Director for the Tahquamenon Area School/Public Library in Newberry, Michigan. Newberry is centrally located in Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula, in proximity to Sault Ste. Marie, St. Ignace, and Munising. The area offers a diversity of outdoor recreational activities year-round, as well as historic and cultural attractions. The Library is housed in the Tahquamenon Area School building located in the center of town. It serves both the student population and the community within the consolidated school district (a population of approximately 7,900). It employs a staff of one full time Circulation Manager and 4 part time assistants. The successful Director candidate will be an approachable, competent individual who brings innovative ideas, a willingness to interact with the community, and who values internal and external customer service. The candidate should have an innovative vision for the Library going forward. Expectations The Library Director provides leadership to the staff, and is the public face of the organization, reporting to the trustees of the Library Advisory Board, the County Library Board, and the Tahquamenon Area School Board. The Director works in partnership with the Board to ensure the Library fulfills its mission and creates strategies to assure future success. The Director is also accountable for programming and fiscal integrity of the organization. The Director works with considerable independence subject to Board policies and directives, but shall show resourcefulness, initiative, creativity, and mature judgment in performance of duties. The Director will attend any meetings associated with membership in the Northland Library Cooperative. Reliable transportation is essential. Announcing a new director at Bloomfield Township Public Library

Hello Everyone, I am excited to let you know that Tera Moon has been selected as the next Library Director of Bloomfield Township Public Library! After a national search by the Library Board of Trustees, final interviews were held on Tuesday, March 30. After these interviews, the Trustees announced that Tera Moon was offered and accepted the position of Director. Library Board President Judy Lindstrom shared that it was a unanimous choice of the Trustees to select Tera to step into this role created by my retirement. We could not be happier about this decision. My last day as Director is May 1. Tera begins as the new Director on May 3. Please include Tera on any forthcoming messages. Armenian Genocide with Professor Ronald Suny

Please join the Northville District Library as we welcome Professor Ronald G. Suny from the University of Michigan, who will present his virtual lecture on the Armenian Genocide on Friday, April 16 at 7pm Armenian Genocide, Friday, April 16 at 7:00pm Starting in early 1915, the Ottoman Turks began deporting and killing hundreds of thousands of Armenians in the first major genocide of the twentieth century. By the end of the First World War, the number of Armenians in what would become Turkey had been reduced by 90 percent―more than a million people. A century later, the Armenian Genocide remains controversial but relatively unknown, overshadowed by later slaughters and the chasm separating Turkish and Armenian interpretations of events. Professor Ronald Suny, noted Scholar of European Studies from the University of Michigan, will give us an account of when, how, and why the atrocities of 1915–16 occurred. He will speak to us virtually during a program to commemorate the anniversary date of the martyrs of persecution and genocide. This is an unforgettable chronicle of events that set a tragic pattern for a century of genocide and crimes against humanity. Since 2014, the REFORMA Children in Crisis Project (CIC) has partnered with REFORMA chapters, non-profit organizations, community groups and individuals to get books and public library information into the hands of unaccompanied youth, arriving from Central America. The support was generous and we are proud of the work accomplished. Since then, U.S. border policies have changed a number of times. As of today, we are inundated with a record number of appeals for help by shelters across the country requesting books for the youth and children currently seeking asylum. Our resources are exhausted and need to be restocked. Once they are restored, we are ready to distribute, sort and mail the books to the US/Mexico border and to shelters around the country. Barb fills the position that has been vacant since Kathy Kosinski moved out of state last year. The library is a class three serving 9,714 and located 30 miles north of Grand Rapids on the US 131 corridor. Qualifications: The position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and at least three years of library employment. Degree in library science preferred. Library experience should include a knowledge of public library services and collections, or its equivalent. Experience in supervision and management is required. Financial management experience a plus. Strong communications skills including the use of social media and web page design. The candidate will have previously completed or will complete the New Director’s Workshop within six months and complete the Advanced Director’s Workshop within eighteen months of being appointed. Duties include: Draft and recommend policies and procedures, and reports to the Reynolds Township Library Board and attends Board meetings. Daily operations and staffing including hiring, firing, discipline, training, and evaluation. Perform financial functions including invoice processing and payment, deposits, payroll and related reports, financial reporting, annual audit coordination, and budgeting. Develop and maintains the library collections of materials, both physical and digital. Act as a liaison and ambassador of the Library and the Board to the local community including the Friends, the library community, and other relevant parties. Negotiates contracts, writes and administers grants, and building maintenance. Maintain the Library web page and other social media sites. Maintain statistics to compile monthly, quarterly, and year end reports as required.
