Position: Youth Services Assistant, Part-Time Salary: $12.00/hour ($15.00/hour is enrolled in an accredited MLIS program). Hours: 24 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays. Must be flexible. Date Available: Immediately Qualifications: * Associate or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university * Experience working with youth. * Skill in working with community agencies serving youth, including outreach to local schools. * Ability to promote and maintain effective relationships with other staff, and work in a team environment. * Strong organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to work independently. * Proficiency with emerging technology. Primary Job Duties: * Emphasis on service, with strong ability to communicate effectively. * Assist library visitors at the youth services reference desk * Develops and implements creative programs and services for youth. During COVID-19 restrictions, this will include providing virtual and take-home programming. * Shares the responsibility for displays and bulletin boards in the youth area. * May attend relevant workshops and meetings. * Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands: * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and see keyboards. Must be able to sit, bend, and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to reach, and carry books or boxes of books, push book carts, use the telephone, lift, push, pull objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Insta-Library: Connecting to Youth Through Instagram during COVID Times Date: July 26, 2021 Time: 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm Eastern Time (Free) Donna Scheeder, Moderator Presentation Title: Insta-Library: Connecting to Youth Through Instagram during COVID Times In March 2020, New York City became the nation's epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis and shut down to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. The 88 neighborhood branches and 4 research centers of the New York Public Library (NYPL) were some of the many places to physically close. Prior to the pandemic, connecting with our young patrons beyond our physical spaces was integral to our work but it became apparent how vital these digital channels were when they became the sole way to connect with our community. As NYPL staff quickly transitioned to working from home, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL) Teen Center team had the opportunity to create content for the @nyplteens Instagram page. As the targeted audiences are NYC teens and educators, the team established a more casual tone to separate us from the flagship account. Over the past year, the Young Adult staff created posts highlighting NYPL service updates, critical city-wide COVID-19 information, community resources addressing food insecurity, and digital resources to assist with online learning. In response to the stress caused by social distancing, we created short-form content on "Adulting'' and coping and fostered connection by going Live with community-based organizations. To encourage youth to get involved, we disseminated information on civic opportunities and voting to support first-time youth voters. Recognizing that today's young people consider themselves more socially aware, we responded directly to the hyper-focus on racial inequalities and supported social justice by posting content that amplified Black authors and Black history. With a full team behind the social media account, there was a marked growth in engagement and audience. Attendees to this presentation will learn user-friendly tools for content creation, methods for collaborative content, organizational techniques for schedule-keeping, and best practices for both reactionary and proactive responses. Facility Maintenance Company?

Hi all,Van Buren District Library’s Webster Memorial location currently employs an individual to maintain the facility including lawn, snow removal, cleaning, repairs, etc. This individual will likely retire in a year or two and we’re considering our options. One option is to hire another individual to perform the same duties as the current individual. Another option is to contract these duties out to various companies. The problem with this idea is it would take a lot of time and knowledge (of which I have neither) to manage all the contractors involved. Does anyone use a single company to perform or manage all of the tasks necessary to maintain their facility? If you use such a company, I would be interested in learning about your experience with them. Free Shelving Unit

We have a shelving unit available. Unfortunately, we do not have any good pictures of it while it was fully assembled. It measures 8' wide by 5'3" tall. The unit is double sided. The picture only shows half of the unit, it can be assembled with half the unit or the full unit, but not two separate units. It also has two end caps not pictured. If you are interested, I can try to get some more pictures of it. You must pick it up yourself.
