Meeting Room Booking Software?
by Director 02 Jul '26

02 Jul '26

Hi everyone, We are looking to change providers for our meeting room booking system- we use Calendly right now, but their fee structure and booking software is not working for us anymore. When someone books one of our rooms for a time slot, it removes the availability to book any other rooms available at the same time. We hope to find another provider that is easy to use and relatively low-cost. Let me know of any suggestions and I am happy to share answers if needed. Thank you, Kelsey Rutkowski *--------------------------------------* *Library Director* *Indian River Area Library* 3546 S Straits Hwy PO Box 160 Indian River, MI 49749 (231) 238-8581 indianriverlibrary.org

Card Renewals & Out-Of-District Patrons
by Sarah Rick 02 Jul '26

02 Jul '26

Hello Everyone, I was hoping to get some information from either Class IV or Class III libraries. I was wondering how often you have to have library cards renewed and what do you charge for out-of-district patrons. We are currently going over our circulation policy, and this information would be very helpful. Thank you, Sarah Rick Library Director [cid:2dfad41f-2e71-41b2-bd75-b924da7aa9d8]

Sustainability Best Practices
by Lisa Craig 02 Jul '26

02 Jul '26

Hello all, At the Canton Public Library, we are exploring possible sustainability efforts. We have joined the Sustainable Libraries Initiative. However, looking through their website and researching elsewhere has made us fully realize just how many possibilities there are for sustainable action. We are looking to focus our efforts on the most valuable areas. With that in mind, we have these questions. What was the most important/valued sustainability work you have done at your library? Was this work done internally, or did you involve outside companies or organizations? Do you have a rough idea of how long/how much staff time the work took? Have you done anything that didn't work, or that did not have the value you hoped for? I will be happy to compile responses if anyone is interested. free online astronomy program: Carl Sagan and the Popularization of Astronomy
by Jennifer Dye 01 Jul '26

01 Jul '26

No, this is not an unintentional repetition. We had a cascade of technical problems (I am almost at the point of finding them humorous), so rescheduled for the convenience of the people who were attending on June 23. You would be welcome to join us. Local astronomer Ken Bertin joins us again to profile Carl Sagan and his influence on popular perceptions of astronomy. Tuesday, July 7 6:00-7:30 p.m. Please register: https://dpl-carl-sagan-rescheduled.eventbrite.com The program will be recorded, and should be available on the Detroit Public Library YouTube channel within a few weeks. We now have a virtual channel just for the astronomy programs: https://bit.ly/DPLAstronomy Jennifer Jennifer Dye Cataloger Detroit Public Library Main Branch 5201 Woodward Ave Detroit, MI 48202 313-481-1392
