We're considering a change in how we shelve/display our kids' books. If any of your libraries use a forward-facing format (like bins or other racks), could you send a picture? Also, how does it work? Do you alphabetize the books in the bin or rack? Is it a mess? Is it great? Do you have another way to display kids' books that works well for you? If so, I'd love to hear it! POSITION TITLE: Adult Services Librarian JOB DESCRIPTION: Do you love talking to people? Do you delight in engaging adults in creative and interesting opportunities? Do you get excited when you recommend a book to someone you know they will enjoy? If you answered yes to these questions, Henika District Library is looking for you! Job Type: Full-Time SCHEDULE: 40hrs per week including rotating Saturdays (1-2 per month) and Monday evenings (This may vary during the first month while training) SALARY: Starting at $38,000/yr REPORTS TO: Director EXPECTED START: Late July 2026 BENEFITS: Benefits are available after completing the probationary period. Eligible for PTO. Healthcare, vision, and dental insurance. MERS Retirement. Paid holidays when positions would be normally scheduled but the library is closed (New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day). ADULT SERVICES DUTIES: Provides active and passive programs for library patrons ages 18+. Duties include, but are not limited to Creating and performing virtual or in person adult programs on various topics Marketing adult-oriented programs and services on library website, social media, and other mediums as applicable Putting together take-and-make activity kits, as applicable Creating and executing timely and well-rounded material displays for the adult area on a regular basis Creating marketing materials for adult department programs in cooperation with other library departments Fostering an environment that is inclusive of all adults and families Engages regularly and positively with adult and senior patrons Continuously builds on relevant knowledge to perform reader’s advisory for adult materials Maintains awareness of new adult materials in the collection Curates and maintains the adult collection consisting of fiction and non-fiction books, audiobooks, large print, DVDs, video games, board games, kits, and special collection items. Prepares Processing Slips for cataloging Manages the adult programming and materials budgets Coordinates with the Youth Librarian and Director on library initiatives Performs outreach with local organizations, retirement homes, and senior communities Oversees the Seed Library Generates a monthly report for review for the Director and the Library Board GENERAL DUTIES: Provides circulation services as operations require. Duties include, but are not limited to Serves the public at the circulation desk by checking in and out library materials and issuing/updating library cards. Collects money for overdue fines and lost and damaged materials. Ensures circulation policies and procedures are followed for the proper handling of patron and materials records for an accurate library database. Sorts, packs, unpacks, and inspects library materials received from or being delivered to other libraries. Runs reports and lists for item hold information and interlibrary loan requests. Searches shelves for requests, retrieves items requested, and routes items appropriately, as well as for overdue items prior to sending overdue notices. Contacts patrons or other libraries as necessary. Provides assistance to patrons and staff in the use of library equipment and machines. Assists with curbside delivery / locker pickup as needed Familiarizes self with general library policies and enforces them as necessary. Places and fills item hold requests. Provides library and directional information to patrons in person or over the telephone. Assists with curbside delivery / locker pickup Attends and participates in any staff meetings or other meetings with supervisor Performs other duties as assigned REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Exceptional customer service skills. Proficient computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive Ability to work with general supervision and adhere to established policies and procedures. Interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with staff and patrons in an effective and courteous manner. Ability to retrieve materials from shelves upon patron or staff request. Ability to push/pull fully loaded book carts, retrieve or place materials above shoulder or below knee level, and transport materials and delivery bags weighing up to 40 pounds. Ability to operate a variety of equipment including cash register, fax, and copy machines. Application Information The Library of Michigan Foundation's State Librarian's Excellence Award will be awarded to a library of any type (public, academic, school, special, tribal, etc.), including branch libraries, that exemplifies excellence in customer service. One (1) library in the state of Michigan will receive this prestigious award each year. The recipient library will receive a $3,000 cash prize and a trophy for display in its public area. Two (2) Library of Michigan Foundation Citations of Excellence will be presented and the recipient libraries will each receive $1,000 and a small trophy for display. Michigan Unclaimed Property

Hello all, One of my co-workers sent an email (below) reminding our staff about Michigan Unclaimed Property. When I checked for our library there were 5 pages of libraries that had claims out there. Go claim your money! The Michigan Department of Treasury has millions of dollars worth of lost or forgotten assets from dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, valuables left in safe deposit boxes, and stock certificates. Because these properties were considered abandoned and unclaimed by the bank or company, they are turned over to the state.
