Free bookshelf !

Hello, We weeded out our James Patterson collection and now have a freestanding, double sided bookshelf up for grabs. Everything you need, comes with. Unfortunately I didn't take a proper photo before disassembling this, so I only have a security camera screenshot of the complete shelf. Everything is pretty compact taken apart, aside from the top piece (which is two parts). There are six columns on each side, and 18 shelves per side so 36 total shelves. You can adjust the shelves as well. If you have a cardigan on, you are granted the strength to assemble it on your own! It is roughly 2' W x 20' L x 3.5' H In all actuality, we are getting carpet replaced, so between April 23 - May 1 we would be happy to help someone at least load items up if they were interested! History of Pewabic Pottery program

Our library hosted Alethea Davenport of Pewabic Pottery of Detroit last night. She presented a history and overview of Pewabic Pottery, which was well-attended by our patrons--especially as there are 2 local arts organizations in our area. The speaker also brought samples of Pewabic Pottery to display, along with plenty of info. on how to become a member, tour their facility, or take classes there. They even brought a variety of coloring sheets. If you've not already had them out, I'd definitely recommend hosting this long-time & beloved organization at your library in the future. David M. Hello, Michigan Librarians! Your library is invited to participate in the 10th state-wide MiLibraryQuest for teens. The short version: The Quest provides a free, easy-for-you virtual event for your teens this summer! The details: This summer’s Quest will provide a series of puzzles for teens to solve as they explore the rivalry between dinosaurs and humans in Michigan. This story will tie in with the CSLP’s theme of Unearth a Story - and be a fun Quest regardless of your summer theme! New this year: The story for this summer's Quest is being created by teens at Dexter District Library and Milan Public Library. They are enthusiastically designing an enemies to friends journey with humans and dinosaurs. An alien is manipulating each group to end up in Lansing for a disco dance party where they'll become friends, bonding over their shared love of music and books. The humans will travel from their home in the UP while the dinosaurs are traveling from their home in Southeast MI. The Quest will take the form of a virtual escape room with various stages requiring teens to solve puzzles (codes, logic, math, etc.) to progress from one stage to the next. Teens can participate in the Quest independently online. If you would like to incorporate an in-person program, that option is available. It is SUPER easy for a library to participate. You only need to publicize the event to your teens (using promotional materials we have designed or your own) and award a prize (of your choice - very small is fine!) to at least one participant from your library. Recent Quests have had between 110 and 175 teens from across the state submit entries. Details: This year’s Quest will begin on July 1 and end on July 31. All you have to do as a participating library is: - Promote the event to your teens (Promotional templates will be provided by the Quest team.) - Award at least one prize to a teen from your library who completes the Quest (The prize can be as small or as big as you choose. Examples of what other libraries have awarded are in #8 of our FAQs here: https://bit.ly/SummerQuest2026FAQs.) Amendment to ADA Web Accessibility Rule - Extension of Time

Hello! On Monday April 20, 2026, The Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division issued an "Interim Final Rule" that extends the compliance date for the ADA Web Accessibility Rule (The Rule) by a year for all covered entities. Federal Register :: Extension of Compliance Dates for Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability; Accessibility of Web Information and Services of State and Local Government Entities<https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/04/20/2026-07663/extension-o…> An "Interim Rule" is a rule that has been issued by a Federal Agency when there is "good cause," or when a situation arises where a change is necessary to address an imminent problem or threat, and public interest is best served by forgoing standard (and sometimes lengthy) rulemaking processes in favor of an immediate implementation. While this rule is in effect upon day of publication in the Federal Register (4-20-2026), the agency has invited public comments, and can propose amendments after the public comment period, and may then issue a final rule as in the typical rulemaking process. The new deadlines are: * Entities serving populations of 50,000 or more- April 26, 2027 * Entities serving populations under 50,000, and Special District Governments serving any amount of population (which for Michigan Libraries means Cooperative Libraries and District Libraries). - April 26, 2028 Reasoning for the amended dates include the intent by the agency to reduce costs and account for limited staffing available to accomplish required updates needed for accessibility. Educational institutions and small local governmental entities especially have indicated a need for additional time due to higher costs and larger staffing impacts than initially estimated. The agency acknowledges the impact on people with disabilities who will be negatively impacted by the extension of time. The agency is balancing the need for accommodation and the impact to people with disabilities of a delay in compliance (and therefore the need to continue to obtain access via a sometimes lengthy accommodations request) and the impacts of consequences to a covered entity for non-compliance or incorrect compliance due to inadequate resources or time to comply. Additional information on reasoning for the change can be found in the Federal Register filing linked above, under "Supplemental Authority," and "Need for This Interim Rule." Entities covered by this rule are still required respond to requests for accommodations from people with disabilities to enable access to websites, documents, etc., in accordance with Title II of the Americans With Disabilities Act.
