Director - Public Libraries of Saginaw (MI) The Public Libraries of Saginaw<https://www.saginawlibrary.org/> (MI) Board of Trustees seeks a thoughtful, community-centered leader to serve as its next Director. The system includes four neighborhood branches-each with deep roots in their communities-and a bookmobile that expands access across the service area. At the heart of the system is the historic Hoyt Library, home to a well-regarded Local History and Genealogy department. With 37 FTE and a staff known for their dedication, the library provides a strong mix of physical and digital resources designed to serve Saginaw's diverse population. Programming spans all ages and interests, including well-established children's events like the First Grade Reading Celebrations, and a wide range of offerings that reflect and engage the community. The library enjoys public support and is recognized as a trusted institution within the city. Key initiatives for the next director include implementing and refining policies, fostering a collaborative internal culture that supports staff creativity, and leading the implementation and execution of a new strategic plan. Saginaw is located in Michigan's Great Lakes Bay region and is part of the Tri-Cities area, along with Midland and Bay City. The city offers affordable living and a small-town feel paired with a vibrant, revitalized downtown cultural and entertainment scene. The community features a symphony orchestra, choral group, community theater, multiple museums and art exhibits, and numerous cultural institutions-including Michigan's only authentic Japanese Tea House. Local sports teams add to the appeal with local hockey and baseball teams and a new indoor football team coming soon. Saginaw hosts local festivals and celebrations and supports the excellent parks and recreation amenities. Ongoing investments in education and healthcare-including Central Michigan University's new downtown medical school-reinforce its reputation as an affordable, well-located community with much to offer. Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will work closely with the Library Board to support effective governance; manage and administer a large, complex budget ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds; provide strategic vision and long-term planning for a library system serving diverse communities; lead the development and implementation of system-wide goals, policies and service priorities; serve as the primary public representative and spokesperson for the library; build strong partnerships with community organizations, schools, cultural institutions and government agencies; direct and oversee all library operations; establish and monitor performance metrics and service standards; lead, mentor and support a large, diverse workforce of professional, technical and support staff; oversee labor relations, organizational structure and succession planning; oversee facilities planning, capital projects and maintenance; and prepare reports, recommendations and policy proposals for board consideration. Early Reader Decodable Books - Collection Question

Hi All! We recently purchased some Early Reader Decodable books and are having a difficult time deciding which collection to put them in. For example, here are two that were purchased: * In Space, Stairway Decodables Nonfiction Step 4, ISBN 9798875227103 * Jip and Jam, In Bloom/Cherry Lake Publishing, ISBN 9781668935095 Most of the decodables purchased are non-fiction with the Jip and Jam series being fiction. The Jip and Jam books also feature weighted text. We currently have Early Reader & Early Reader Non-Fiction collections along with a Teach collection that holds our phonics books along with any type of homeschool books as well. If you have any decodable books, where did you put them within the collection? We are debating how to catalog them and which collection to put them in so that they are easily found by patrons specifically looking for that extra phonics help. Permanent Story Walks

Hi everyone; We are working with our city to install a permanent Story Walk in one of our local parks. If your library has been part of the installation of a Story Walk, I would love to get your recommendations. We are looking at the kind that are installed on posts with displays that open to change stories. 1. What company did you use to purchase the Story Walk? 2. How many stations did you install? 3. How long was the walk that the Story Walk was installed at? 4. Any other recommendations, comments, etc. (The good, the bad, and the ugly!) LM 2026 LSTA Public Library Services Grant Program - Application are now open!

The Library of Michigan Public Library Services grant program is back! LM is pleased to announce the 2026 grant application is open. Applications are due March 25th at 5:00 PM. Detailed information on the grant program, including timeline, applicant eligibility, and the application is available at www.michigan.gov/lsta<http://www.michigan.gov/lsta> in Public Library Services Grant program section. Highlights are below. We recommend reading the documentation thoroughly before applying as there are significant changes from the previous years. Public Library Services 2026 Grant program This LSTA grant program is designed to support public library programming in the areas of literacy, digital access, and/or local history. For 2026, the grant program will fund kits that circulate to the public. Some examples are family literacy outreach backpacks, robotics or electronics kits, digital conversion kits, laptops or family oral history kits. Materials are for circulating to the public but may be used in demonstrations when not in circulation. Grant Details: * Applications are due Wednesday, March 25th by 5:00 PM EST. * Branch locations are eligible for grants, however, ALL branch applications must be submitted and managed by the main or administrative branch. * A UEI (Unique Entity Identifier) number from SAM.gov is REQUIRED on the application. * Funding will be from $500 to $1,500 per location. * Funding is by reimbursement only. * Eligible applicants are Michigan public libraries that are legally established and currently eligible for state aid. * The grant period is from mid-April to August, with expenditures complete by July.
