The Canton Public Library has 13 like-new wall-mounted sign holders available to anyone who can use them and will pick them up. [image: 20250418_142115.jpg] They have a navy blue metal frame with a removable glass pane, and have two strong adhesive strips on the back. [image: 20250418_142032.jpg] [image: 20250418_142105.jpg] Though they have never been used, they were purchased more than 20 years ago, so they are "like new." We still use these holders in some areas of the library, and I guess it speaks to their quality that we have so many backups we haven't needed. GSA employment is designed to provide a professional hands-on learning experience in an academic library setting. The skills and experience gained from the GSA position will serve to expand upon knowledge gained in the classroom and will be invaluable for graduate students pursuing a career in information sciences. GSAs divide their time between providing direct user assistance at physical and virtual information/reference service points and special projects throughout the library system. Project assignments may include work with discovery services, special collections, eResources, instruction, and digital publishing and are based on interest and career goals. These positions support the Wayne State University mission to create and advance knowledge, prepare a diverse student body to thrive, and positively impact local and global communities. A successful candidate must embrace an environment of inclusion that moves beyond simple tolerance to recognizing the richness in individual identities of people, and diverse perspectives.

FYI - Links for upcoming Hearing in IMLS litigation and US Supreme Court Oral Arguments on a School Book Challenge case

Hello! This is an FYI about some hearings and oral arguments occurring in the coming days in two cases of interest to the library community. Both events will be livestreamed to the public for free. Information and links to the livestreams are listed below. Friday April 18, 2025 State of Rhode Island, et. Al. v. Donald J. Trump - This is the case in Rhode Island Federal District Court challenging the Trump administration's executive order to IMLS and other agencies requiring that those agencies eliminate all non-statutorily required programs and components and which is causing the reduction of staff and the pause/stoppage of programs, including the IMLS funding programs. Michigan via the Michigan Attorney General is also a party to this litigation. State Librarian Randy Riley, LibDev Manager Michelle Bradley, and Grants Coordinator Karren Reish have been working with the MI Attorney General. The court will hold a hearing on a motion for a Temporary Restraining Order to pause actions by the administration to implement the Executive Order which precipitated the actions against IMLS and other agencies. Taylor. This is a case where parents are suing their school district over LGBTQ books in their children's classroom. They are alleging that the refusal of the school district to permit the parents to opt out is an infringement of their religious freedom. The books in question are not used as part of any sex education or LGBTQ+ curriculum - they are used for read aloud and literacy and in-classroom collections.
