NOTE: Annual salary adjustments may also occur, based on collective bargaining agreements. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES An employee in this classification has training and/or work experience in teen literature and programming and works under the direction of an Assistant Branch Librarian or Librarian of a higher classification. An employee in this classification will work regularly scheduled evenings and weekends. The Librarian I for Teen Services will: * Perform reference searches and reader's advisory services in Teen and Adult services * Participate in outreach events at local middle and high schools * Prepare topic guides that are relevant to the needs of older middle school and high school students * Develop special programs for teens * Prepare displays and exhibits * Review and purchase books * Collaborate with other librarians on Summer Reading Programs and the Livonia Teen Volunteer Council MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND APPLICATION PROCESS By the closing date of this announcement, applicants must: 1. Be a citizen of the United States or resident alien with the right to work in the United States; and 2. Possess a master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited college or university; or 3. Have at least 18 credit hours towards a master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited college or university; and 4. Have a minimum of two years of experience providing direct service to the public; and 5. Have strong interpersonal and communication skills. NOTE: Candidates must present proof of 18 credit hours or their master’s degree at the time of application. NOTE: As a condition of employment, candidates must obtain their master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited college or university within 18 months of employment. PARTS OF EXAMINATION AND WEIGHTS Interview - 100%* *In the event the number of qualified applicants exceeds 15, an evaluation of the 15 applicants with the most appropriate and responsible combination of experience and training will be invited to the interview. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES General knowledge and ability to use the following: * Online resources and personal computers * Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and community members * Communicate effectively both verbal and written * Develop and promote library programs that target our teen population * Review new titles and select books for purchase based on the needs of our teen population NOTE: At the time of appointment, applicants are required to pass a pre-employment medical examination conducted by a physician authorized by the City of Livonia. Library Building insurance

Dear Directors, Our building and contents insurance is through Michigan Township Participating Plan which goes through BHS insurance. This year we paid over $12,000 for coverage last year was a little over $10,000. Has anyone else had a large hike in premiums? The coverage is $3.5 million on the building and $850,000 for contents plus technology. Hello everyone, We are currently reviewing our Library Building Insurance policy which is up for renewal. We currently are using Municipal Underwriters of Michigan. Our annual premium as almost doubled because they have stated "Due to higher losses on smaller sized accounts state wide, the insurance company has instituted a $5000 minimum premium on all accounts". that the underwriters have reviewed the economy, inflation, etc. and had to make an across the board increase for all policy holders. Can you please share who you use and if you are satisfied with your insurance companies? Also, has this become an issue for your library as well. Good morning, If you are a Class 1 or 2 Library and have the time I am currently looking for information on if your Municipality owns your building and if you pay rent. If so how much do you pay? The second part of this is, do you pay administrative fees to the accountant at the municipality, and again if so how much do you pay and exactly what does your accountant do for you? In his talk, he will relate the story of what led him to write the book and the experience of visiting the beautiful and remote Rogers City. To help the locals tell their story, he will feature excerpts from the recorded interviews he conducted. Here's an excerpt from the book: "Port Sanilac's population according to the 2020 census was 567. Harrisville's was 437. Oscoda's was 916. For a hundred boats to descend on such places any given weekend, July through September, would have been-what, exactly? A calamity? A bonanza? Dangerous? Exciting? And for whom? At the very least, it would have been impossible to ignore. Gather ‘Round the Table with Teens: A Food Literacy Workshop Food literacy is essential for teens to understand and learn about food in a positive way, including food skills and best food practices. Young adult library staff will benefit from this workshop designed to guide libraries to in turn support teens as they explore the impact of food on so many levels of their lives. Food Education Consultant Rebecca Antill will provide in-person workshops on how to plan and deliver nutrition & cooking programs for teens, featuring how to do so with minimal kitchen access. As a former librarian, Rebecca will offer a tailored learning experience that will equip library staff to offer food programming of all levels at their libraries. Basic health and safety information, kitchen classroom management, culinary skills and community partners will all be discussed as participants cook and share time together. Bring your own apron as this cooking workshop is hands-on and very interactive!
