2024 MLA Board Elections - Call for Nominations

The Call for Nominations for candidates for the Michigan Library Association (MLA) 2024 Board of Directors Election is open! Do you know someone who would be a great addition to the MLA Board? Submit a nomination! We also encourage you to self-nominate if you are interested in serving on the MLA Board. The Call for Nominations will be open through Friday, November 3. The MLA Nominating and Leadership Development Committee (NLDC) is seeking nominations/self-nominations for four member-at-large directors and the President-elect position, with terms beginning in July 2024 and ending in June 2027. Self-nominations are definitely accepted. Throw your hat in the ring, we’d love to hear from each and every one of you. The submission deadline is 5:00 PM on Friday, November 3, 2023. Register here: https://wplc.org/event/open-meetings-2023/ Organized by White Pine Library Cooperative *Event Description*White Pine Library Cooperative will be hosting an Open Meetings Act and Parliamentarian Procedures program for you and your Library Trustees on *Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Reese Unity District Library.* Some Boards have found themselves in need of a refresher on the Open Meetings Act as well as running a Library Board meeting while following parliamentarian procedure. You may not be experiencing meetings where a lot of the public shows up, but being prepared for this type of situation helps take the pressure off the Director and the Board. The session will include a review of the Michigan Open Meetings Act, basic parliamentary procedure, and rules that the Board can enact. Those interested will need to register for this *FREE* event. Hello Library World! We are considering requiring individual to have a library card to be able to sign up for pre-registered programs. Programs that would have limited spots such as crafts, Minecraft (we provide computers), parties, etc. Our questions are: Who has implemented this and why? How do you implement this?
