Good afternoon, The Adrian District Library has the following job opportunity available: *AVAILABLE POSITION:* Youth Services Librarian *WORK SCHEDULE: * 40 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours *PAY RATE:* Starting wage is $24.95 per hour, commensurate with experience; benefits include health insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, paid holidays *JOB SUMMARY:* The person in this position plans and executes services and programs for the Youth Services and Teen Services Departments of the public library, including materials selection, reference and readers advisory services, programming, outreach, and any other library-related work as required. They oversee development of the library’s youth and teen collections, including reference materials and electronic collections. Additionally, they provide service to the public required at the library’s service desks. They occasionally act as Librarian in Charge (LIC) in the absence of the library director and assistant director. A complete job description is available on the library’s website at www.adrian.lib.mi.us. *REQUIREMENTS:* A Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school. Students currently enrolled in a graduate program of library and information studies will be considered for the position at a lower starting pay rate until they have received the degree. Previous experience working in a public library setting and/or working with children is highly desirable. The position requires a commitment to customer service excellence, excellent oral and written communication skills, expertise with computer technology and an understanding of its potential in providing high quality library services. The successful candidate must have the ability to organize multiple assignments and to work independently. The position requires demonstrated initiative and a creative approach to attaining departmental goals as well as the ability to enforce library policies and procedures. I know you know I LOVE authors who donate their time to libraries. We have another fantastic one coming up on October 24th. Robert Swartwood. Do you like Gregg Hurwitz's Orphan X and Mark Greaney's Gray Man? If so, you will like this author. His newest book is the beginning of a series called The Killing Room. I listened to it on audio (through Overdrive). The narrator is a two-time Audie Award-winning Edoardo Ballerini. SCAO grant

Hey Michigan Library folks, Nora Ryan from Michigan Legal Help asked me to share this information with you all. In September, the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) announced the 2024 Legal Self-Help Center Grant Program. SCAO will award and disburse $500,000 in grant funding to expand legal self-help center services across the state. SCAO is now accepting applications. Grant applications are due November 12, 2023. You can learn more about the Program and how to apply at the Michigan Supreme Court and SCAO Grant Program page<https://www.courts.michigan.gov/publications/grantsrfps/>. For selected grantees, the grant period will start on January 1, 2024 and end September 30, 2024. Michigan Legal Help will provide technical assistance to grantees and is available to consult on proposals. The last grant cycle saw 15 different programs funded, many of which are still in the implementation phase. Executive Director of Library Services - Manistee County Library (MI) The Manistee County Library (MI)<https://www.manisteelibrary.org/> Board of Trustees seeks a thoughtful and engaging leader as its next Executive Director of Library Services. With a $1.5 million budget, 18.5 FTE, and six locations, the library provides over 24,000 residents with essential services and resources through a variety of programming, diverse print and electronic resources, and knowledgeable staff. Library highlights include robust children's programming, a Library of Things collection, and one-on-one technology assistance. In the coming years, the library will be focusing on a renewal of its existing tax millage, an assessment of the organization's facilities, and building lasting relationships with community organizations. Nestled along the shores of Lake Michigan, Manistee County boasts a unique blend of natural beauty and small-town charm that make it a destination for many. The area has a rich history, with Victorian-era architecture adorning the streets of downtown Manistee. The county's arts scene, featuring the historic Ramsdell Theatre, eight museums, and frequent Little River Casino concerts, offers cultural enrichment for all. The area offers hiking, fishing, and water sports across 25 miles of sandy shoreline on Lake Michigan, over 500,000 acres in the Manistee National Forest, multiple inland lakes, 270 miles of rivers, and many four-season fisheries. Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the Manistee County Library Board of Trustees, the Executive Director of Library Services plans and directs the services of the library system to provide for the education, reading entertainment, and information needs of the community. The Executive Director of Library Services, as the only staff member with an MLS, is responsible for building and maintaining library collections; developing policies for Board approval to guide library operations; supervising library staff, training new staff members, assisting in negotiations with the libraries' unionized employees, preparing and administering the budget, and performing other administrative functions. Qualifications: A master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited library school and five years of progressively more responsible experience in library administration with extensive prior supervisory/administrative experience is required. The Library Board, at its discretion, may consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with long-range planning, training new library workers, involvement with a successful millage effort, and be a team leader who will serve as the face of the library. Compensation: The hiring salary range is $60,000 - $75,000 (with placement negotiable dependent on experience and qualifications) and an excellent fringe benefits package.
