MeL Minute: Add Value to Your Library of Things with MeL eResources

To consider how this might work, I visited with Bobbi Schoon, Director of the Three Rivers Public Library. Along with her staff, Schoon has been growing a Library of Things based on community interests and requests. We talked about how their Things are packaged and how community members might enjoy using them. Many libraries provide telescopes for patron use. Library of Michigan Public Library Financial Management - 2nd Cohort Application Open!

The 2nd Round of the Public Library Financial Management Cohort is open! The first cohort was a great success, thanks in large part to the great work by the participants. If you think you want to learn public library financial management, please review the information below and sign up! The Library of Michigan works to provide library specific administrative training for public library staff. As part of this goal, LM is working with the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government to provide a public library financial management certificate program for a cohort of up to 30 public library staff members. Recommended participants may be public library directors, budget administrators, or other public library staff with managerial financial management responsibilities. The cohort is a one-year series of classes focused on governmental financial accounting and policy development. The cohort does not include software or basic accounting instruction. The 2nd Cohort group timeline is October 2022 through September 2023. The Library Financial Management Certification Program includes six online courses: * Budgeting for Libraries * Governmental Accounting for Libraries * Internal Control for Libraries * Purchasing * Payroll Administration * Writing Financial Policies The Library of Michigan is underwriting the program costs. He has been a super advocate of libraries and other community anchor institutions during his career and works closely with staff at the Library of Michigan.
