The planned Anythink Nature Library is the first of its kind, supporting the well-being of the Adams County community through spaces, experiences and collections focused on nature and environmental stewardship with a 50,000-square-foot library on 139 acres of open lands. The executive director will support Anythink's strong culture by inspiring staff to dream big, work collaboratively, and invent and implement outstanding library services. As a special taxing district, Anythink has dedicated funding via property taxes, contributing to an operating budget of $27 million annually. This is a non-union organization. Adams County, Colo., is located just north of Denver with a population of 519,572, as of the 2020 census. From the bedroom communities of Thornton and Federal Heights to the rural town of Bennett and the urban industrial area of Commerce City, the populations served are diverse in a county spanning 1,200 square miles. As one of the fastest-growing economies in the country, Adams County is experiencing the change, challenges, and opportunities that come with rapid growth. As part of a metro area expected to see a population increase of 50 percent by 2050, the residents of Adams County look to the library as their community hub, an anchor for information and inspiration. Reporting to the five-member Board of Trustees, the Anythink executive director's responsibilities include setting strategic direction; creating a strong culture; managing the administrative team; developing relationships with strategic partners; overseeing, developing, and administering the library budget; and leading an organization that puts people at the center of its spaces, services, materials, and experiences offered. Minimum qualifications include 8+ years as a library director or manager and a bachelor's degree required. An ALA-accredited Master's in library science or the equivalent is preferred. The ideal candidate will also possess a strong understanding of budget and financial stewardship, experience with capital projects, and excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. A starting salary range of $150,000-$180,000 (with placement negotiable, dependent upon experience and qualifications) and an excellent fringe benefits package. Program Recommendation: The Legacy and Memory of Emmett Till

Hello Michlib-I, We recently hosted the following program: The Legacy and Memory of Emmett Till: A Story of Geography, History, and Racism The story of Emmett Till was silenced for over 50 years after his brutal murder on August 28, 1955. Since 2005, new information has been discovered about what really took place after Emmett made the famous whistle to Caroline Bryant after purchasing candy at Bryant’s Grocery in Money, Mississippi. Presenter Jim Herm will share his research into the post-Civil War South, the legacy of Emmett Till, and the start of the Civil Rights movement. Jim Herm is a resident of Otsego, Michigan and a retired Portage Public School history teacher and counselor. He has visited many of the recently opened historical sites that will be discussed in his presentation, which is intended for listeners 15 and up. Jim Herm was knowledgeable, passionate, enthusiastic, and thoughtful during the presentation. He answered all of the audience's questions and was very grateful to be given the opportunity to do the presentation. Jim was great to work with as well. Job description: Library Technician STATUS: Part-time DIVISION: Library REPORTS TO: Library Director SUPERVISES: Work-study students FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt SALARY: Depends on qualifications POSITION SUMMARY The Library Technician helps with the daily operation of the library facility and performs tasks related to access services and reference. The Technician supervisors evening hours at the Color and Materials Library. The Technician also assists with collection development, collection management, and library instruction as needed. The schedule may vary to meet operational needs and could include evening and weekend hours. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Serve as evening supervisor at Color and Materials Library - Assist with daily operations of the library facility including circulation services, reference services, material sample cataloging, and technology support - Help library patrons through multiple service points including in-person, phone, email and virtual chat reference - Assist with stacks maintenance projects such as missing searches, shelf reading, shifting, weeding, etc. - Assist with periodical check in and claim filing for missing issues - Processing, organizing, and shelving incoming material samples according to established schema - Lend assistance with collection development and management - Create digital learning objects for library instruction including course guides and video tutorials - Update and maintain the Color and Material Library social media sites following established guidelines and workflows - Support library outreach and programming efforts - Other duties as assigned. In need of "antique" library equipment for an exhibit

Hi Michigan librarians, Kalamazoo Public Library is celebrating its 150th Birthday later this year with special events and programs...and an exhibit featuring memorabilia, documents and imagery from days gone by at KPL. We're also looking to display examples of authentic and "antique" library equipment from any period over the past 150 years from other libraries that will help illustrate library service during that time. Does your library have (for example) a "Regiscope machine," lever dater, perforating book stamper, or anything else unique to library work? Willard Library is a District Library serving over 90,000 residents of the four public school districts in and around Battle Creek. The next Director will have a budget of approximately $6 million dollars and 40 staff. Established in 1840, Willard Library is one of the oldest public libraries in Michigan. We, at the Northville District Library, invite you to join us online this Wednesday, May 4 at 7 PM, for an informational session focused on planning for your pet's care should something happen to you. Prominent Detroit trust and estates attorney, Robert E. Kass, co-author of the book, [ https://catalog.tln.lib.mi.us/?section=resource&resourceid=2701504&currentI… | Who Will Care When You’re Not There ] , will present for us via Zoom and examine how prepared you are to answer the question "What would happen to my pet if I didn't make it home today?" In addition to exploring the role of estate planning in making practical and financial arrangements for your pet’s future, Kass will discuss arranging for your pet’s care should you be injured, hospitalized or simply unavoidably delayed while traveling.
