Part1: Trustee Training 101: The Basics - September 13, 2022, 1:00pm-2:30pm (ET) - This session will cover the basic information newly appointed or elected library trustees should know in order to begin their tenure governing a public library. What to know, who to ask and how to avoid pitfalls. New Director at the Orion Township Public Library

We are happy to announce that the Orion Township Public Library Board has hired Chase McMunn as the new director. Chase's start date was January 18 and he will replace Karen Knox who held the position for nine years before she resigned earlier this year. Chase previously served as Assistant Director for the County of San Luis Obispo Library in California, where he served since 2015. Prior to the county of San Luis Obispo Library, he served as a Community Library Manager of Topanga and Malibu Libraries for the County of Los Angeles Library from 2011 to 2014. Chase also served as a Teen Services Librarian and Adult Services Librarian at the East Los Angeles Library and La Crescenta Library, respectively from 2008 to 2011. Chase received his Master of Library and Information Science from UCLA in 2008 and his BA in History from University of Michigan in 2004. MCLS offers new Digital Collections Class!

Please spread the word about a new class being offered through the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services. Creating and Caring for Digital Collections<https://mcls.corsizio.com/c/619515157161ca35ccf61f22> 3-day class, February 15-17, 10am-12pm Eastern (9-11am Central) Class Description: Libraries have long collected and preserved unique local history collections that tell stories about the places we live and work. But how do we start to bring these valuable collections into the 21st century? This course will provide an overview of basic considerations for starting a digital collections project, with a special focus on small or under-resourced institutions. Topics include project preparation and readiness, defining scope, assessment and selection, basic digitization, metadata standards and requirements, rights statements, providing access, digital preservation, and using digital collections in organizational advocacy. iPad Mobile Device Management

Good morning all, For libraries that circulate iPads, I was curious what sort of device management software, or other solutions you have deployed. In particular, we're looking for content filtering for CIPA compliance as well as things like enabling temporary sessions with guest accounts. Most of the MDM solutions I've found seem fairly expensive, or have much larger schools/corporations in mind, so I'm hoping I can find something a little more suited to a smaller library. Register for a 2022 NFPF Grant by March 25th

Friday, March 25th marks the registration deadline for the National Film Preservation Foundation’s federally funded grant program, made possible by the Library of Congress Sound Recording and Film Preservation Programs Reauthorization Act of 2016. The NFPF offers two types of federal cash grants that support the preservation of historically and culturally significant American films. Completed applications will be due Friday, April 29th. Basic Preservation Grants fund laboratory work to create preservation masters and access copies, and are open to nonprofit and public institutions in the United States that provide public access to their film collections. The awards range from $1,000 to $20,000. For more information go to https://www.filmpreservation.org/nfpf-grants/basic-preservation-grants Matching Grants help experienced institutions undertake larger-scale projects; applicants may request cash stipends of between $20,001 and $75,000 to fund laboratory work. They must “match” the NFPF grant with outside cash support equal to one-fifth of the award. Only institutions that have successfully completed a NFPF-funded project may apply.
