Emergency Connectivity Fund toolkit available to help access $7 billion FCC accepting applications June 29 - August 13 To help libraries take advantage of the new $7.17 billion Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) program staring June 29, ALA has created the ECF Solutions Toolkit<https://www.ala.org/advocacy/ecf>. New resources summarize key ECF provisions and detail how public and tribal libraries can design, plan, and implement technology services using the new funding to serve library patrons who need it most. Established as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fala.inform…>, the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) ECF program will provide funding for public and tribal libraries and K12 schools to purchase connected devices and broadband internet connections for use off of library and school grounds by library patrons, students, teachers, and staff who otherwise lack internet access. Libraries participating in the ECF will receive 100 percent reimbursement of costs for eligible equipment and services and the ability to receive upfront reimbursement. The toolkit, located on ALA's ECF webpage<https://www.ala.org/advocacy/ecf>, includes five scenarios that provide step-by-step guidance modeled on examples collected from libraries across the country-in rural, suburban, and urban communities. Options include tablet or laptop lending, hotspot lending, creating community Wi-Fi hotspot zones, and subsidizing home internet access. Resources The Teen Video Challenge<https://www.cslpreads.org/programs/2015-teen-program/2021-teen-video-challe…>, sponsored by the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP), is an annual national video contest open to all teens (librarian support is encouraged). The challenge is for teens to create a public service announcement-type video that shows their unique interpretation of the 2021 CSLP slogan "Tails and Tales." Videos are to be no longer than 60 seconds and should promote libraries and reading. Videos will be accepted June 1 through August 6, 2021. The MI Diaries<https://www.mi-diaries.org/> project, run by Michigan State's Sociolinguistics Lab, is looking to connect with local libraries this summer! We have been collecting "audio diaries" from Michiganders ages 3+ since April 2020, and will keep collecting them throughout the next few years as well. The project sends out weekly diary prompts, and diarists self-record their answers or anything they want to talk about into our app (for iOS<https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mi-diaries/id1525241983> and Android<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.msu.midiaries&hl=en_US&gl…>). These diaries will help us understand how Michiganders' lives and language are changing! Anyone living in Michigan ages 3+ is eligible to become a diarist. Diarists can choose to opt-in to our partnership with the Library of Michigan, and we will share their anonymized recordings to the library's LM Digital<https://lmdigital.libraryofmichigan.org/about-lm-digital-collections> platform, for future Michiganders to access. Diarists can also earn Amazon gift cards for participating ($5 every 2 weeks, if they submit at least 15 minutes of audio diary). We are looking to hear from more kids (ages 3+) and teens especially. As local librarians, you know your community and its needs best - and we would love to hear how we could support your already existing summer programming by connecting the MI Diaries project to it! CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER - TOPEKA & SHAWNEE COUNTY (KS) PUBLIC LIBRARY The Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, a municipal corporation governed by an appointed Board of Trustees, seeks an accomplished Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who is committed to sparking curiosity and connections through literacy and learning in Topeka and Shawnee County, Kansas. Techsoup Hotspots data limits question

Hi All I know other libraries out there have Techsoup Hotspots too - we just got ours going a little over a month ago and are having problems with a couple of them saying data limits reached. These are supposed to have unlimited data. Has anyone else encountered this and if so can you reply to me off list and tell me how you resolved it? Travel bags for check out

Hi all, I am working on creating travel bags for patrons to checkout - these bags will have various items inside that will help entertain their children during vacations. Until I know how they circulate, I am creating one for elementary age kids, one for preschool age kids, and a sensory bag. I am curious if any of you have done these types of bags to check out to patrons, or something similar. If so, what types of bags did you find worked well to contain these items? I had thought of doing clear plastic backpacks but I am not sure I want to spend that much on the bags alone. Dymo labelmaker fading issues

We use a dymo labelmaker and have noticed in the past year that many of our labels are fading dramatically! It seems worse if the label is covered with 3M book tape. Has anyone else had this issue and found any solutions? Different tape, etc? It's looking like we will end up relabeling many items and need to find a solution before then. What spine labels do you use?
