Press Release for Tecumseh Herald @ Your Library Tecumseh District Library hosts Outsmart the Scammers on Thursday evening, February 11, 2021, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. This special event will be streamed on Facebook Live, which can be viewed from the library's Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/Tecumseh-District-Library-192148050127/. Incidents of fraud are on the rise, and scammers' tactics are becoming more complex. This presentation will help give attendees the information they need to Outsmart the Scammers. During the program, financial advisor Frank J. Zanger of Edward Jones will discuss how to spot certain red flags that may indicate a fraudulent encounter, resources individuals can turn to in the event they or loved ones are targeted, and steps attendees can take to help protect themselves and loved ones. Virtual audience members will have the opportunity to win prizes, including gift cards for Boulevard Market and Tecumseh Center for the Arts. Before joining the Edward Jones team in 2019, Frank had a career in banking, including serving as Relationship Coordinator for Monroe Bank & Trust in Tecumseh. He is an active member of the Eastern Michigan University Sigma Nu Alumni Association and has served as the alumni advisor for the chapter for 10 years. Tecumseh District Library invites all to this special event. The library is located at 215 North Ottawa Street. The growth of vaccine hesitancy in recent years is most commonly attributed to the anti-vaccine movement. Social media is often at the heart of this conversation as a tool used to spread vaccine opposed information and to connect vaccine-hesitant people with each other. This webinar aims to give an overview of understanding vaccine hesitancy, both around childhood vaccines and the COVID-19 vaccine, and how social media has facilitated this movement. Central Michigan University Welcomes Kathryn Remlinger, Author of "Yooper Talk"

On Thursday, February 11, at 7:00 pm, the Clarke Historical Library will host Dr. Kathryn A. Remlinger, professor in the Department of English at Grand Valley State University. Dr. Remlinger is author of Yooper Talk: Dialect as Identity in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (2017). She will draw on her more than decade-long study of Finnish accents in the UP to discuss both the accents and how people who have them are perceived by others. This presentation is free and open to the public. The event will be broadcast via Central Michigan University's videoconferencing tool, Webex, and it will be recorded to enjoy at a later time. Qualifications. Minimum qualifications are a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program and five years of progressively responsible library experience-including two years of experience in an administrative capacity managing professional staff and programs. Essential attributes include a strong understanding and ability to articulate the public library's vision, mission and values to the community; collaboration and consensus-building skills; facilities maintenance and space planning experience; excellent interpersonal and team-building skills; a history of responsiveness to staff, customer and community needs and concerns; sound fiscal management skills; and a thorough knowledge of current trends and "best practices" for library service. Black Future Month webinar with Jerry Craft

Hi folks! Comic books have always been political. They are both a reflection and a barometer of our times. From the first appearance of Captain America in March 1941 punching the face of Hitler, to recent titles like *I am Alfonso Jones* and MARCH - titles tackling police brutality and the life story of Congressman John Lewis - comic books have been and continue to be vitally important avenues to visually tell our stories, to share our histories, and to show experiences and multiple perspectives while engaging both sides of our brain. The Graphic Novels and Comics Round Table (GNCRT) of the American Library Association in collaboration with our colleagues at the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) have been working on reading lists and webinars focused on Black experiences - past, present, and future. We hope to see our lists utilized as resources for educators, parents, and readers of all ages and these webinars as spaces to discuss why Black Lives Matter and Black literature matters. Our upcoming webinar titled *Black Future Month* features Jerry Craft, cartoonist of *New Kid* and *Class Act*, in conversation with Ariell Johnson, the owner of Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse, a Black-owned comic book store. This webinar will be moderated by Sandra Farag and Tatanisha Love, members of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) and the ALA Graphic Novels Comics Round Table (GNCRT). [MeL favicon]The rate at which humans produce data and information is growing exponentially. As estimated by the World Economic Forum, the amount of data in the world at the start of 2020 was 44 zettabytes. What's a zettabyte? I had to look that one up. A zettabyte is 1,000 bytes to the seventh power, or to make that easier to visualize, one zettabyte has 21 zeros. Information literacy has always been important, but in the last few decades it has become even more important as we figure out how to navigate this growing mountain of data and information. Helping patrons make sense of the information they're finding is equally important and can be tricky. We have some new tools that can help!
