Central Michigan University Presentation - Rachel Williams, author of Run Home if You Don't Want to Be Killed

On Wednesday, October 13, at 7:00 pm EDT, the Clarke Historical Library at Central Michigan University will host the first of four presentations as part of the Clarke's Virtual Fall Speakers Series (you can find the entire line-up on the Clarke's website<https://www.cmich.edu/library/clarke/publicprograms/current_exhibit/pages/d…>). Rachel Marie-Crane Williams will speak about her latest graphic novel, Run Home if You Don't Want to Be Killed. In the context of WWII and the emerging civil rights movement, Detroit was the scene of deadly civil unrest in the summer of 1943. Professor Williams' book tells the story of this painful time in Michigan's history. She will join the Clarke to share her research and artistry in developing this book. This presentation is free and open to the public. The event will be broadcast via Central Michigan University's videoconferencing tool, Webex, and it will be recorded to enjoy at a later time. Apologies if this posts twice. I think I had the wrong address the first time. We had been putting nicknames and preferred names in parentheses or as notes on the patron’s account. We use Biblionix Apollo and I contacted support to suggest adding a place for this, and they said it’s already there, it just needs to be enabled! The Library is located in Brandon Township, Michigan (pop. 15,175) and services the Township and the Brandon School District. Brandon Township, on the northern border of Oakland County, encompasses a rural and small-town scene rich in tradition, including the Village of Ortonville, with an active small business community, a vibrant school district, seasonal festivals, a growing farmers market and many outdoor recreation opportunities. The Ortonville State Recreation area attracts hikers, campers, anglers, hunters, and equestrians to its 5,400 acres of lakes and trails. An expanding Township Park is home to soccer and baseball fields, a handicapped accessible winter sledding hill, and a paved 1/3-mile track along a tree library. Our Class IV library is fortunate to have dedicated funding through a perpetual millage; a professional, industrious staff; a healthy fund balance; and a building that has been recently redecorated and renovated with additional projects in process. Overwhelming response for library signage

I received an overwhelming response for library signage in the past week as MLA creates a new banner for our legislative newsletter. Thank you to all that sent over a photo! We received so many in fact that MLA had to create 3 banners so that we could actually read them! Today we sent out our legislative newsletter with one of the banners (we will rotate each month.) Our intent is to also use these for the Advocacy Coffee Hours that will debut in November and continue on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 10am (Mark your calendars!) Two of the three banners are complete and included below. If you don’t see yourself yet, the third should be ready soon (photos are still coming in.) If you didn’t get a chance to send me a photo – you can still do so. We’ll create as many banners as needed to accommodate all of Michigan’s wonderful libraries. At some point, we will combine them all and find a purpose for this as well. Until then, I am sending my heartfelt appreciation to you for being so responsive to our request.
