The Teen Services Librarian (37.5 hours a week, including evening and weekend hours) is responsible for collection development and programming for teens, as well as reference and readers advisory services for patrons of all ages. Capital Projects Fund

Shannon, I am the Interim Director at Portage Lake District Library in the Upper Peninsula. Our former Director Dillon Geshel sent me the email outlining the Covid Capital Funds Project and I am wondering if this is something that PLDL can apply for, or our city government can apply for on our behalf? It isn't quite clear to me if this has a larger scope that involves the state actually applying for the funds or if smaller entities can apply. MeL Minute: Using RSS Feed Alerts in Academic Search Complete

With academic journals, magazines, newspapers, and trade publications at their fingertips, it’s easier than ever to find credible sources to better understand science, social issues, and the humanities. Popular publications such as Public Library of Science One<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customlink/proxify/proxify.php?count=1&e…> (PLoS One), New Scientist,<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customlink/proxify/proxify.php?count=1&e…> Educational Leadership<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customlink/proxify/proxify.php?count=1&e…>, and the American Journal of Public Health<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customlink/proxify/proxify.php?count=1&e…> are available full text, each offering a variety of high-level content over a wide breadth of subject areas. One of my favorite features is the ability to create an RSS Feed for a specific publication or keyword search and receive a notification when a new issue of a publication or articles on that topic are published. To keep current in the library profession, I have publication alerts set for new issues of publications such as Library Journal<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customlink/proxify/proxify.php?count=1&e…> and Computers in Libraries<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customlink/proxify/proxify.php?count=1&e…> and search alerts for topics such as creating a Library of Things and Book Bikes. Setting up an alert for a publication: · Create a free EBSCO account<https://connect.ebsco.com/s/article/How-to-Create-and-Manage-a-My-EBSCOhost…> and sign into it · Click on Publications in the blue menu bar at the top of the page · Search for publications of interest · On the search results page, click on the orange RSS Feed icon next to the journal title · A box will pop up to set preferences such as whether you want to receive the alert as a general publication link or a table of contents with a link for each article Setting up an alert for a keyword search: · Create a free EBSCO account and sign into it · Use the Search box on the landing page to find topics of interest · On the right side of the search results, click on Share · Click the orange RSS Feed icon in the drop-down menu · A box will pop up to set preferences such as whether you want to receive the alert as a general publication link or a table of contents with a link for each article Once you have set your preferences, you will receive a confirmation email from EBSCO that includes a URL. The URL can be added to RSS Feed email settings or feed reader to organize the alerts. RSS feed notifications are a feature of most MeL EBSCO eResources and you can easily modify your alerts within your EBSCO folder. Want to know more about RSS feeds? 1,000BBK Question - Prize Books Attainment

Good evening all, I was just curious if any of you had advice on where to locate either free or inexpensive children's books which could be used for 1,000BBK prizes. We are starting this program at our library and working out the final kinks and details. If there are no places to get free or inexpensive, does anyone know of any grants perhaps we could apply for in order to purchase prize books for this program? Friends Groups without officers

Hello! Our small, but wonderful, Friends group is discussing disbanding because none of their members are willing to serve as officers of the group. They have 8-10 members who consistently attend meetings and their current President has held an office for a large portion of the group's 42 years in existence. She cannot do it anymore and none of the other members are willing to take on the responsibility. When they discuss disbanding they mention wanting to continue to volunteer, but without the group organization. Does any library have a Friends group that operates without officers or with a different organization system? We, the library staff, are encouraging them to hold a member drive and utilize United for Libraries resources for other options before doing something drastic, like disbanding. It would be a huge blow to the library (both monetarily for programming and also support-wise for interacting with our community) if they ceased to exist. Please, send me any ideas you have, no matter how out of the box! I appreciate it! Thanks everyone!
