Handicap parking

Good morning: I am hoping one of my colleagues has already gone through this and has some words of wisdom. I am waiting for legal counsel to provide some guidance. My library currently has two handicap parking spots. I have an employee who needs one of the two spots. How have you handled this? I am thinking about adding additional handicap parking spots, but then should I assign her one? Label it for staff only? Thanks in advance for your help. -- Amy Knepp, Director Oscoda County Library

Library Assistant Position Opening

Hello everyone! The Ruth Hughes Memorial District Library in Imlay CIty, Michigan currently has a job opening for the position of Library Assistant. This is a part-time position (20-25 hours weekly) that performs circulation tasks at both libraries and serves as the manager at the Attica branch during assigned shifts. The Ruth Hughes Memorial District Library is a class 3 district library located in Lapeer County with two branches. The main branch is located in Imlay City, Michigan and the secondary, smaller branch is located in Attica, Michigan. MLA is opposed to House Bill 4536 (HB 4536) and calls library directors, staff, trustees and advocates to action. We have a very short window to voice our opposition. The House will be voting on HB 4536 this afternoon. Please contact your Michigan House member this morning to voice your opposition to HB 4536, remind them of the importance of penal fine revenue to libraries and that the Michigan Constitution states that penal fines should be used exclusively for libraries, and ask them to oppose HB 4536. To make things easy, MLA has drafted a letter of opposition for your use, or better yet, we encourage you to make a personal call to your House members’ office this morning. Portland District Library Hiring Two Part-Time Clerks

The Portland District Library is seeking two part-time library clerks. Duties include checking books in and out, processing books, helping patrons meet their information needs, and other tasks that go along with working in this busy library. The successful candidate must enjoy working with the public, have a friendly and positive attitude, and be computer literate and attentive to detail. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older, and have a high school diploma. One candidate will be trained to take over the cataloging of materials. The hours of work for this position will be: · Mondays from 2:00pm – 8:15pm · Wednesdays from 8:45am – 4:00pm · Thursdays from 4:00pm – 8:15pm · Fridays from 8:45am – 1:00pm · Every third Saturday from 8:45am – 2:15pm The other candidate will work in our youth department, and will be responsible for a weekly storytime and other youth programming as needed. POSITION: Information Technology Support Specialist I, Software – Full-time (35 hours per week). May include evening and weekend hours (Saturday/Sunday). QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; In-depth knowledge of computer hardware, software and website management tools; Demonstrated knowledge of Windows 10; Excellent communication skills and positive public service commitment; Experience or working knowledge of front-end development languages (CSS, HTML, JavaScript, PHP) in addition to MySQL, website design principles and graphics creation software; Good collaboration skills; Demonstrated ability to use office productivity software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to design and maintain websites and their content; Provides updates, reports, and manages the ADA compliance of website; Responsible for the system-wide network equipment, including the servers, workstations, peripherals, software, etc.; Provides system administration and maintenance for windows-based multi-server environment (DNS, DHCP, file sharing, active directory, etc.); Responsible for cable maintenance throughout facilities; Installs software and hardware throughout facilities.
