Kalamazoo Public Library<http://www.kpl.gov/> (KPL) is proud to announce a new scholarship for people of color interested in obtaining their master’s degree in library science, the Amanda Green Scholarship<https://www.kpl.gov/about/support-the-library/amanda-green-scholarship/aman…>. According to recent studies conducted by the Department for Professional Employees<https://www.dpeaflcio.org/factsheets/library-professionals-facts-and-figures>, in 2019, just 5.3% of librarians identified as Black or African American, 7.1 percent as Hispanic or Latino, and 3.5 percent as Asian-American or Pacific Islander. These numbers reveal an overall lack of diversity in librarianship. In response, KPL created the Amanda Green Scholarship, named after a former library assistant in Teen Services at KPL, to promote the library profession to people of color. By providing monetary assistance to individuals seeking a master’s degree from an accredited library science program, the library hopes to promote the training and hiring of more librarians of color in Kalamazoo and other communities. The scholarship is managed by the Kalamazoo Community Foundation<http://www.kalfound.org/> and the deadline to apply is March 1, 2021. The first scholarship will be awarded for a student expected to attend a graduate-level library science program in fall 2021. “Libraries need a more diverse workforce to better represent the communities they serve, and KPL is eager to encourage a love for librarianship and improve pathways for students of color,” said KPL Director Ryan Wieber. “Our goal is to inspire future KPL librarians, but the hope is to attract more people of color to library work overall—wherever they may end up professionally.” Eligibility Criteria Individuals wishing to apply for the scholarship must fulfill the following qualifications: * Reside in Kalamazoo County or be a graduate of a Kalamazoo County High School. * Earned an undergraduate degree or will be earning one within a year of applying. * Enrolled in graduate school at least part time. * Attend a school that is accredited by the American Library Association in the field of Library and Information Sciences. * Be a Person of Color. Award Amount Applicant(s) will be awarded $5,000 per semester if attending as a full-time student and $2,500 per semester if attending as a part time student. The size of the award can be determined in part by the funds available. If you have experience in providing network/PC support services and exhibit excellent customer service traits, we’d love to have you on our team. The Network Administrator/PC Support Specialist provides administrative oversight for the MCFLS network environment and direct technical support to member libraries throughout Milwaukee County. This position reports directly to the MCFLS System Director. MCFLS is an organization overseen by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and administered by a seven-member Board of Trustees. It functions as a membership organization with its membership made up of the 15 public libraries in Milwaukee County. MCFLS provides resources to libraries such as delivery and automation services while also facilitating collaboration among members to deliver responsive and innovative library services to all residents of Milwaukee County. Responsibilities -Technical support. Manages the deployment, maintenance, support and upgrade of equipment. Develops member library trouble call response protocols, including service scheduling, post-service follow-up, and overall quality control. Makes recommendations concerning standard hardware/software and peripheral products and standards and provides relevant training. -Member library technology consultation and special project implementation. Assesses needs, recommends solutions, researches pricing, and, as directed, orders and installs equipment for member libraries. -Network administration. Manages all functions and programs currently operating in the network environment and ensures WAN/LAN connectivity. Assumes liaison role with relevant vendors. Develops and maintains relevant licensing and documentation information. -Planning and Research. Participates in the development of the MCFLS Technology Plan and Technology Annual Report, researches current and evolving technologies, and, as assigned, serves on system and statewide committees. -Inventory Management and Database Program Development. Manages inventory control of all MCFLS central and remote site equipment. Qualifications Required: -Four year college degree, or advanced certifications and/or equivalent experience may be substituted. -3-5 years of professionally responsible experience in computer information systems; especially related to network administration, WAN/LAN configuration, and workstation hardware and software. -Experience maintaining servers and workstations in a Windows environment. -Excellent communication skills needed. Must be able to work comfortably, patiently, and helpfully with people whose computer skills range from negligible to advanced. Preferred: -Experience maintaining networks and workstations for public use, particularly within a public library setting. -Current CompTIA A+ certification. -Experience with Linux environments. -Skilled in programming or scripting to accomplish work tasks. Compensation Minimum salary $70,000, commensurate with experience. A Couple of Tech Questions

Hello! I have a couple questions for you all in regards to some tech! Recently, I received funding for a new circulation desk computer, and though I'm leaning towards an all-in-one desktop, I was curious as to what you've found works best (especially if anyone has an all-in-one desktop!) At the moment, we have a Mac. Secondly, we've also decided to do some story time here at Seville Township Library! It'll be virtual, of course, but I'm new to cameras.
