Welcoming Spaces As part of a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Association of Children's Museums (ACM) are accepting applications for participation in a one-day Welcoming Spaces National Forum on June 25, 2020 in Chicago, IL. The purpose of this project is to develop and share a set of best practices in serving immigrants and refugees in libraries and children's museums. Selected participants will represent 12 children's museums and 12 libraries. These participants and up to 24 of their partnering organizations will discuss best practices from their work serving immigrants and refugees. The ALSC-ACM project team will prioritize selecting for a diverse group with respect to geography, size, service type, and duration of project. In addition, preference will be given to participants who would attend the event as a collaborating team. Applications will be accepted until February 28 and selected applicants will be notified by March 31, 2020. ALSC President, Cecilia McGowan, encourages ALSC members to use this opportunity to collaborate with partners in their communities and regions to share and showcase their experiences and learn from peers across the nation, as we do everything we can to serve immigrants and refugees. The ALSC/ACM Project Team will review completed applications with the following priorities: - Geographic, Racial/Ethnic, Service Type Diversity - Collaborative teams - Range of project duration Stipends for travel (up to $500), lodging & meal (up to $463) expenses will be provided to participants on a reimbursement basis. Please forward to anyone that may be interested in this message. ******************** The deadline to submit a poster session proposal for the MiALA Annual Conference is tomorrow, Friday, February 21. Don't delay!!! Grounded and Growing The need to grow and change is a constant for libraries as we respond and adapt to our evolving academic environments. As we celebrate 5 years of MiALA and look towards the future of the organization, we will explore the ways academic libraries are initiating and managing change, not just redefining and reevaluating, but growing from a place that is grounded in our strengths and aligned with community needs. How do we continue what is working and critically examine and pivot from what is not? MiALA invites you and your colleagues to submit poster proposals for the 5th annual conference to be held May 14-15, 2020 at Ferris State University. Participation from librarians, library staff, LIS students, and administrators from all types of academic libraries is encouraged. MiALA membership is not required to submit a proposal. Results: Determining Residency and Millages for Public Library Cards

First, I just want to thank everyone for their responses to my questions about determining residency and what you use besides Fact Finder. You all gave me a good amount of research and reading, which I appreciate! Second, here are the requested results… Overall, besides American FactFinder, there are three websites that everyone is using to determine the residency of their patrons. · Michigan Voter Registration <https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/Clerk> · Kalamazoo County GIS Parcel Viewer <https://www.kalcounty.com/equalization/parcel_search.php> · Census Reporter <http://censusreporter.org> However, that being said, it has also come to light that none of these sites are infallible and that it always pays to double check on multiple sites, just in case. Another few people also suggested BS&A Online <https://www.bsaonline.com/?uid=2081>. However, if I’m looking at this correctly, I have to pay per inquiry. That being said, a few people swore by it.
