Determining Residency and Millages for Public Library Cards

Hello everyone, In the past, my library has used American Factfinder <https://factfinder.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/index.xhtml> to help determine where millages are paid and how classifications for residency are determined for our library cards. We were basically able to punch in an applying patron’s address into the system <https://factfinder.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/searchresults.xhtml?refre…> and based on the Economic Place results, we were able to easily determine the classification. However, American Factfinder is going offline on March 31st and we are having some issues with navigating the Census Data website thus far. As I am waiting to hear a reply from the Census Data website of whether this feature will be part of the migration or going obsolete, we are exploring other options, such as working with Google Maps. Nothing is showing the ease of access we are hoping for thus far. Would anyone mind sharing their foolproof go to for determining residency and where mileages are paid? Thanks to everyone who responded to my reference request. Special thanks to Linda at the Dow Studio Archives for clearing up the confusion. The article's title is "New Shells," with an accompanying photo spread called "Modern Houses Across America," in the Aug 15, 1949 issue. While the Saxton house in Flint is not the focus, and Dow is not named, it does discuss several other architects, construction trends, and large contractors building moderately priced (!) homes in Flint, San Francisco, and Levittown. Sad news

Last Friday afternoon, we lost one of the shining stars of the Superior District Library. Pickford Community Library Manager, Ann Marie Smith, passed away following a very brief battle with cancer. Ann Marie was a bigger-than-life personality in the Michigan library world, and she will be missed by both our library family and the Pickford community. The following is a tribute from her family... "Dear Friends and Family, Yesterday God welcomed home a new Angel. Ann passed calmly and quietly with me in the privacy of her new apartment in the Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods in Grand Rapids, MI. Ann was an extraordinarily private person to the end. It was a privilege to be with her and after 65 years of being the little brother, it seemed a fitting last trip on which to tag along. Her end of life journey was one that she embraced with the same enthusiasm with which she lived her entire life. Despite the cancer that took her life so quickly, her relentlessly positive attitude, her endearing love for others and her life gift of giving to and taking care of others was an example that inspired and is worthy of imitation. Her chaplain at Trillium perhaps summed it up the best. After his first meeting with her he went back to his office and wondered if he had actually met an angel living on earth. Ann will be buried next to her maternal grandmother in Gilmore township, MI. We will have a private family ceremony there and will follow with a celebration of life in Pickford. As we finalize arrangements we will keep you all posted. Thank you for your love and caring. Ann lived a beautiful life because she was surrounded by beautiful family and friends. Thank you. KidLitCon Conference March 27th -28th, 2020, Ann Arbor

Hello, I am one of the organizers, along with Katy Kramp of a children’s book conference, KidLitCon. We would like to invite you to the 12th KidLitCon conference which will be held March 27-28 of 2020 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Our theme this year is "Seeing Clearly." Our keynote speakers will be American Indian Children’s Literature Award Honor winner Dawn Quigley ( Apple in the Middle ), author-illustrator Arree Chung ( Mixed) , and Newbery Honor winner Jasmine Warga ( Other Words for Home.) We already have the names of over 100 book folks (authors, illustrators, librarians, teachers, and reviewers) who will be joining us. It's a gathering that focuses on energetic and friendly conversations, leaving attendees inspired to go forth and get the right books into the right hands. We also aim for good representation across the board, with diverse representation, including ethnicity, gender and religion on all our panels. This year’s event is sponsored by the Ann Arbor District Library, which is providing lunches as well as making it free to attend for everyone. Event Calendar/Room Reservation Software

Hi Everyone, I apologize because I think this question came through recently, but I was not able to track it down for responses. I am investigating options for new event calendar/room reservation software for our library. We currently have Demco. I would love to hear from any libraries that have something different. If you could share information on ease of use for staff and patrons, customer service responsiveness, update frequency and how well the company responses to requests for innovation, and anything else noteworthy along with a link to your calendar, It would be very much appreciated.
