Ohio Valley Group of Technical Services Librarians 2020 Conference Diversity & Student Scholarships

Sharing on behalf of our friends at OhioLINK in case any of you are interested in scholarships… 😊 The Ohio Valley Group of Technical Services Librarians (OVGTSL) is pleased to offer three library student scholarships and two diversity scholarships to attend the 2020 OVGTSL Annual Conference held in Akron, Ohio. Scholarships cover full conference registration and lodging for two nights (May 17 and 18). Scholarship recipients will be required to submit a brief review of the conference and their experience within 30 days of the end of the conference. University of Kentucky School of Information Science, Northern Ohio Technical Services Librarians (NOTSL), and OhioNET have generously sponsored student scholarships. OhioNET and NASIG have generously sponsored diversity scholarships. Student Scholarships Any full or part-time student enrolled at an ALA-accredited library/information science school in Indiana, Kentucky, or Ohio as of Spring 2020 (including those graduating in Spring 2020) is eligible to apply. Applicants are not required to reside in the Ohio Valley region. climate change speaker

Hi all, We had an excellent speaker on climate change at our library earlier this month. (Our high school's Green Earth Club actually made the arrangements.) His presentation was very science-based, but in an easy-to-understand manner for the layperson. We continue to hear positive comments regarding it. Even though it was long (about an hour and a half), lots of people asked questions at the end and nobody left early except one student who had to be at work. Grant Writing Workshops - How to Craft a Great Proposal

So you want to get a grant. The Library of Michigan is putting on workshop series on grant writing this May with Karren Reish as the facilitator. "Grant Writing 101 - How to Craft a Great Proposal" will cover understanding funder priorities, planning a project and writing a proposal that showcases your project and abilities. How can you meet grant funder expectations when you apply for a grant? What do they need to see in your application? What can you learn from their program priorities? What will get your application flagged in the wrong way? Come learn about how the grant application and review process work and how that impacts your interactions with potential funders. Bring grant ideas to discuss and learn good grant application habits. Be prepared to review sample proposals! MeL Minute: The Next Time You Buy a Used Car, Check Auto Repair Source

Now that I do, I can speak from experience. I could have asked better questions before the sale. And I could have had better information after the sale. I use Auto Repair Source all the time now and show my relatives and friends how to use it. Recently, I was showing my Dad how to use Auto Repair Source and we found out that his vehicle had a safety recall on the gas tank. That’s the thing about purchasing a used car. You’re not the original owner and don’t always know about the service bulletins and recall notices. As you can imagine, my Dad was pretty darn happy to find out about the recall and get the gas tank replaced.
