BACKGROUND The MacDonald Public Library is the municipal library of New Baltimore, Michigan--located in Macomb County on the north shore of Lake St. Clair. Through contractual agreement the Library also serves the community of Casco Township. MacDonald is a member of the Suburban Library Cooperative. It is a Class IV library serving over 14,000 residences in the City of New Baltimore and Casco township. It has 4 full-time and 11 part-time employees with an annual operating budget of $560,000. In 2020, the Library completed Phase 3 of a four-phase facilities project. The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) is looking for people to volunteer for the 2022 Artwork Committee. Committee members will be expected to look at sketches for program year 2022 (Oceanography, Oceans of Possibility, artist Sophie Blackall) and evaluate them from a culturally authentic viewpoint and provide constructive criticism to ensure posters and spot art are inclusive and reflective of the diverse communities we serve. Wired Article: Publishers, Libraries and eBooks

All, There is nothing in this article you don't already know, really but it is an interesting read just the same. Mirroring what is reported in the article, the OverDrive group that is administered by TLN has seen a ytd increase of 23.72% in its number of checkouts vs. last year. This group is on course to surpass 1,000,000 checkouts for the first time in its 12 year history. About 75% of TLN member libraries now subscribe to Hoopla. Kanopy has made huge strides during the past six months, in terms of expanding its subscriber base. RBdigital is on the way out, although its influence will live on in the form of its (albeit reduced) Unlimited Audiobooks platform and (hopefully to be continued) Unlimited Magazines, with OverDrive. Etc. With the vast increase in demand for these digital resources likely to continue in libraries in the future, one hopes that these longstanding issues (libraries paying a premium price for digital content vs. what consumers pay; publisher arguments that library sales reduce consumer sales, etc.) can somehow be resolved in a way that benefits all parties involved. Due to a retirement, the Northville District Library seeks an enthusiastic and innovative individual for a part-time position to serve as one of its Youth Services Librarians. Position: Youth Services Librarian 20 Hours per week, including some weekends and evenings This is a Union Position Salary Range: $23.21-$27.06 per hour based upon prior work experience Benefits: Paid time off includes sick, vacation, holiday, and personal business time. Essential Duties Include: • Participates in community and school outreach activities • Develops and implements a variety of youth programming including story times and other literature-based programming, Summer Reading, STEAM activities, crafts and hosting performers. • Develops and maintains youth collection areas by reviewing, evaluating, selecting, purchasing, and withdrawing materials • Provides reference, readers’ advisory, and library services support for users of all ages at the public Information and Reference Desks • Promotes informational literacy and facilitates learning in the library using a variety of techniques • Recommends changes in programs, services, and collections based upon new developments in the library field • Communicates effectively with staff and patrons • Serves as the Librarian-in-Charge of the building when assigned • Participates in Continuing Education opportunities • Performs related duties as assigned Required Qualifications: • Master’s Degree in library science from an ALA-accredited college or university • Possess a Level I or II Professional Certificate from the Library of Michigan.
