State Librarian's Excellence Award Application Due Aug 16

The Library of Michigan Foundation's State Librarian's Excellence Award will be awarded to a library (any type), including branch libraries, that exemplifies excellence in customer service. One library in the state of Michigan will receive this prestigious award each year. The recipient library will receive a $3,000 cash prize and a trophy for display in its public area. Two Library of Michigan Foundation Citations of Excellence will be presented and the recipient libraries will each receive $1,000 and a small trophy for display. Job opening: *Instruction and Reference Part-Time Librarian* Oakland University Libraries seek a part-time librarian to provide information literacy instruction and reference services. Instruction-related duties include one-shot instruction sessions for WRT 1060, a freshman composition course. Reference-related duties include offering research help to library patrons in person, over chat, phone, and email, as well as providing one-on-one research consultations. Part-time librarians also assist with special projects as assigned. Hours: 15-20 hours per week Salary: $22.50 per hour Start date: September 3, 2019 The job candidate must have an ALA-accredited MLS and strong orientation towards instruction and reference services. Joining the Michigan Digital Preservation Initiative – July Open Planning Call Announced

The Statewide & Regional Stepping Stones to the National Digital Platform<https://www.gvsu.edu/library/stepping-stones-68.htm> project will be launching the first in a series of monthly virtual planning calls for our entire state community of libraries, archives, museums, galleries, historical societies, and other similar collecting institutions. Running through the remainder of 2019, these virtual monthly calls will be an opportunity for all such institutions to catch up with the work of this incredible new collaborative initiative, and begin directly contributing to laying the foundation for the new open community and digital preservation network to-come. Looking for recommendations

Hello Library World, We recently had Genot Picor here at the Holly Twp Library for a children's program and he was very well received. I know that our Children's librarian was very pleased with his performance. My question is: has any libraries had Genot perform for adults? I'm thinking of having him out here later in the year to do a musical performance for older adults. Genot is suggesting a program that will feature vocalist Carrie Grignano on violin and vocalist Genot Picor on guitar; the event would be "A Sentimental Journey into Music from Yesteryear."
