[logo-square]JOB POSTING Head of Adult Services The New Castle-Henry County Public Library is seeking a motivated and organized leader to plan, organize and manage library adult services including reference, programming, collections and circulation. Some responsibilities include: * Provides input and assistance to the Director in strategic and long-range planning; budgeting; policy development; marketing and public relations; collaboration and partnerships and other functions and projects as assigned. * Ensures the efficient, effective, and capable operation of the following public library services: Circulation, Reference Services, Adult Programming, Audio-Visual, Interlibrary Loan, Indiana Room, and Teen Services. * Supervises and provides guidance to department staff. * Assists with development, budgeting and evaluation of departmental programs and services. * Participates in the selection, training, and evaluation of departmental personnel in the appropriate areas of oversight. * Oversees collection development to ensure a balanced and vibrant collection. * Cooperates and coordinates with other departments to meet library goals and objectives. * Promotes library services and programs within the library and the community. * Follows and enforces library policies to assist in providing safe conditions for staff, public, and building operation. Takes appropriate action in building emergencies. This position requires an individual with strong commitment to public service and the ability to serve staff and patrons in a professional, helpful, cooperative, and courteous manner. Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess a good command of the English language in order to interact in a professional manner. Must have knowledge of modern library systems, policies, procedures and services, and the ability to apply that knowledge. Must also have the ability to handle multiple priorities and apply problem solving skills. In addition, candidates must have expertise and proficiency with computers and computer-equipment, and must be able to successfully use basic office applications and the internet, including databases and social networking sites. Minimum Requirements: * Master's degree in Library Science from ALA accredited school required. * Ability to achieve Indiana Library Certification 3 or higher within 6 months. * Minimum of three years professional library (public preferred) experience with at least one year in a supervisory position. * Must be able to speak, hear and see; sit or stand for an extended length of time; reach with hands and arms; occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crawl; occasionally lift/carry or push/pull up to 25 pounds. Schedule: Full time, primarily Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm with flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends. Occasional local and long distance travel. Simple instructions for using Square for credit card payments

Hello Library Community - I wonder if any of you have put together a simple instruction sheet to help staff members to familiarize themselves with Square. I would happily take instructions for both the traditional Square reader and the new bluetooth reader. I have done a search on the Square site and on Wiki-How and both sites are a bit more involved than I need. Thanks in advance for any help provided! The Beginning Workshop is a 3-day event geared for library staff members that have not had the opportunity for formal library coursework. Its aim is to introduce library staff to a variety of topics and offer them practical skills that they can use working in a public library. Anyone new to the profession or just hired at a library, no matter what their academic credentials, is welcome to attend the event. For those seeking an initial Level 3 or Level 4 certificate from the Library of Michigan attendance at the entire Beginning Workshop is obligatory. Smith named ALA President's Program Speaker at 2018 ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition Pulitzer Prize-winning author and poet Tracy K. Smith will speak from 3 p.m. - 5 pm. on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at the 2018 ALA (American Library Association) Annual Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans. Her collection "Life on Mars" won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize and was selected as a New York Times Notable Book. Last summer, PLA piloted this first-of-its-kind internship program designed to present librarianship as a viable career option for the next generation of Americans. In 2017, PLA sponsored paid, mentored public library internships for 50 high school juniors and seniors at 39 host libraries across the U.S., including two tribal libraries and sites in Alaska and Hawaii. For 2018, PLA is proud to offer this opportunity to 50 libraries, with support from IMLS’ grant RE-00-17-0129-17. Each participating library will recruit an intern who, with individual guidance from a mentor, will engage with multiple facets of library life this summer.
