The Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) is seeking an extremely well-organized, highly motivated individual to join our team as the Manager of Group Purchasing. As part of our three-person team, you will manage licenses from dozens of vendor partners and negotiate to get the best terms and conditions for MCLS member libraries. You will assist members with new and renewal subscriptions and inform them about any changes in their licenses. You will oversee the Group Purchasing section of the MCLS website and keep it current with all the latest information about vendors, prices, and special offers. The right person will be an effective multitasker, highly organized, and detail oriented. Experience with database or e-journal license negotiations is necessary. You should be knowledgeable about the latest trends in collection development and e-resources. You need to be a people person with the skills to get along with people in a variety of positions, from sales reps to front-line librarians to department heads and directors. A sense of humor and an ability to learn on the job are critical to success. MCLS offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits package including medical, dental, life and vision insurance. MeL Minute: Consumer Reports on MeL.org

Greetings Michigan Library Community, [cid:image002.png@01D46BB1.1EC5A600]By now many have heard the good news that MeL carries Consumer Reports (part of MasterFILE complete)<http://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=co…>. This well-loved resource is available on the eResources page under Popular eResources as well as in the alphabetical listing. You can also reach it by going into MasterFILE. Our subscription is the complete version of the magazine, includes the annual buying guide, and is not embargoed. The experience available via MeL.org is NOT the subscription interface known as ConsumerReports.org that many Michigan libraries pay for, and are accustomed to. Our interface offers a basic, browse-only environment with a link to a searchable version of the complete magazine. We do have plans to develop a more visual interface, with a built-in search feature, to improve the delivery of the Consumer Reports magazine content. Look for it in upcoming months. For those who may not be familiar, the ConsumerReports.org subscription provides richer information, and searching functionality apart from the magazine (although the magazine information is included). It includes deeper information and research data on consumer products not found in the publication, instant access to the exclusive Cars Best Deals Plus data for car buying and repair, the TV Screen Optimizer that shows the best screens for your type of viewing, the credit card comparison tool, and some video content. We've fielded several questions from folks about Consumer Reports and our goal with this MeL Minute is twofold: 1.) to inform you of some of the differences between these eResources and 2.) to clarify what MeL.org has purchased for statewide access. ISO public use printer/copier recommendations

Hello collective brain, Our branch needs to replace an old public use copier, and I'm looking for recommendations on multi function copier/printers that can do the following for patron use: Print and Copy: b&w and color Network to our public use computers Wireless printing Coin operated Scan is optional, as we already have a scanner at one of our computer carrels If you have a printer/copier with the above features for your patrons, please contact me direct. I'd like make and model, need to know cost of software/computer language, and if a dedicated computer is required. Are there any issues with Apple and Windows based devices wirelessly printing? We are upgrading from an old, and dead, black and white coin operated copier patrons use independently, and a black and white networked printer that patrons pay for and pick up prints at the circulation desk. My vision is to provide our patrons with a printer/copier they can operate independently of staff. Yes, utopia. Our library cards do not have the capability to act as prepaid cards, hence the need for coin op. MiKidLib is in its 6th year and is an annual unconference for youth services staff (current, aspiring, and retired).
