We would like to invite children in grades 3-5, their parents and teachers to the 6th Annual Young Authors' Festival at UM-Dearborn on Saturday, Nov. 10. This free event features a presentation and book signing by Michigan author/illustrator of graphic novels and how-to-draw books, Mark Crilley, as well as fun breakout sessions for children and adults, and a writing contest awards presentation. Last year we had great success finding great deals at www.firstbook.org to give away. This year we are not having as much luck. Any Teen/Adult fiction authors coming to your library soon?

I have a really great young man who is working on a semester long project of writing a choose your own adventure type book. He's in 10th grade. He has never seen an in-person author presentation. Part of his project is going to listen to a current fiction author (teen or adult). He totally missed out last night when Supriya Kelkar was at Bloomfield Township PL (because he didn't read my email). Is there any library who has an author scheduled in October or November and is within 30ish minutes of Rochester Hills? I would really appreciate the information. Thanks! The Comstock Township Library is a seeking a part-time Reference/ Local History Librarian to join our team... Job Description: Be able to troubleshoot basic computer issues. Answer reference questions with accuracy Be able to access information effectively. Provide excellent customer service skills. Be able to assist patrons in one-on-one computer lessons. Catalog materials using MARC standards, DDC, LCSH, and RDA. Assist in collection development. Maintain the local history room. Digitize photographs and assign metadata for them. Archival work with newspapers pertaining to the Comstock area. Indexing local historical information. This job requires: M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. degree from an A.L.A. accredited institution. Positive, friendly interactions with staff and patrons Flexibility with schedule. Sitting for long periods of time. Pushing book carts and lifting up to 25 lbs. of library materials Retrieving materials from high or low shelves. Sitting at a computer for long periods of time. This job requires some evenings and Saturday shifts.
