Smithsonian's Museum on Main Street: Water/Ways

As a reminder, the deadline for this popular program is July 10. The Michigan Humanities Council invites Michigan libraries to apply to host the Smithsonian's Water/Ways exhibition<http://www.michiganhumanities.org/water-ways/> in 2018 and 2019. The Water/Ways exhibition explores how water connects human beings with our surrounding environment, while shedding light on its environmental, cultural, and historical importance. As "The Great Lakes State," water is an invaluable resource and part of Michigan's identity, and we are looking for six communities to host the exhibit and share their local water stories. Host communities will have the chance to engage in conversations with water experts, host the exhibit, create additional programming, and help shape the dialogue on Michigan's water policy. Any libraries who don't use web filters?

Hello, We're having ongoing issues with our web filters blocking our WiFi users from certain websites that are safe, and with it conflicting with Envisionware. My director is at the point where the problems the web filters are causing outweigh the preventative good of having them in place and would like to remove them. Before we do so, we are wondering if any libraries who have stopped using filters could contact me off list and share why they removed them and what their experience has been? Thank you! Old schools as branch locations

Hello, Folks - I had an idea a while back and wanted to bounce this off you guys to see if I am crazy or not. Seems to me that with all the elementary buildings that are available now in districts that are losing students due to school of choice, they might make nice facilities for library branch locations. If you could find one that is not too old, even a small one would have quite a bit of space. They all come with gymnasiums and such so there would be room to hold pretty much any function you could think of. They are mostly one story so the weight of books would not be a concern. What you don't use for the library could be used for other community services or even just storage. Is this just nuts? Or not? Thanks - Mark Ehle --
