Amy Clipston to talk in Battle Creek

Willard Library in Battle Creek is sponsoring a visit by inspirational fiction writer Amy Clipston, author of “The Cherished Quilt,” at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6. Her talk will be at the Holiday Inn, 12812 Harper Village Drive, Battle Creek. The timing of her visit is exciting, as the third installment of her Amish Heirloom series, which culminates with “The Beloved Hope Chest,” will be released on Tuesday, May 9. “The Cherished Quilt” was the second book in this series. Clipston writes both full-length novels and novellas and has written stories for both adult and young adult audiences. Immediate opening for a part-time Reference/ Local History Librarian at the Comstock Township Library! Reference/ Local History Librarian Job Description 20 hours per week (16 hours on desk) Evenings and rotating Saturdays required. Job Description: Be able to troubleshoot basic computer issues. Answer reference questions with accuracy Be able to access information effectively. Excellent customer service skills. Be able to assist patrons in one-on-one computer lessons. Catalog materials using MARC standards, DDC, LCSH, and RDA. Assist in collection development. Maintain the local history room. Archival work with newspapers pertaining to the Kalamazoo area, in particular Comstock. Indexing local historical information. M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. degree from an A.L.A. accredited institution. This job requires: Sitting for long periods of time. Pushing book carts and lifting up to 25 lbs. of library materials Retrieving materials from high or low shelves. LSTA allows grant funds for public library services and has priorities for targeting library services to individuals of diverse geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, to individuals with disabilities, individuals with limited functional literacy or information skills and expanding services for learning and access to information. This program provides funding for public libraries to purchase materials and supplies that meet the selected program topics for a given year and are for an identified program or service the library will be providing. Funding is intended to supplement local topical services that improve information access and quality of service in their communities. The focus will be on small projects that improve community services, with a focus on the LSTA priorities listed above. The grant period will be from June to August annually, as funding allows. Funding will be from $500 to $2,000. Funding is by reimbursement. The application deadline is May 22, 2017. Eligible applicants are Michigan public libraries that are legally established and currently eligible for state aid. Request for libraries converting from Tattle-Tape to RFID

We were fortunate several years ago to score deals on used 3M Tattle-Tape security equipment from public libraries in the Lower Peninsula that were converting to RFID (thank you!). We are in a position where it would be great to find another used 3M 3800 series security gate. Just thought I would throw that out there in case there is one available. I'm keeping an eye on eBay too, but would much rather deal with another library. We are willing to pay a fair price for these used assets. I also wanted to plant a seed that your tattle-tape equipment can find a second life in libraries that are not making the jump to RFID. Have a great spring! Bruce A.
